According to a report today from VG 24/7, Sony has released the firmware 1.51 update for the PlayStation 4 ahead of the next-gen console’s European, Latin American and Australian launches this week.

In a post to Twitter, PlayStation Community Manager Chris Owen said the firmware update will be available for download on the UK and European PlayStation website by mid-day Thursday.

Future PS4 owners can download the file to a USB drive and upload the update right after they receive their console at launch.

The pre-download serves two purposes, to allow quick updates to freshly purchases PS4 units to appease owners, but also to save the PlayStation Network from an over-saturation of users attempting to update their system.

Sony also said that users pre-downloading the update should do so from their regional PlayStation site.

The update, which went out live just before the PS4 launch in North America on Nov. 15 allows for features to be utilized, interface updates, and is necessary for Blu-ray playback and online features, according to the report.

The PS4 launches in Europe, Latin America and Australia on Friday, Nov. 29.
