Minutes ago on Xbox Wire, 343 Industries General Manager Bonnie Ross revealed Halo 5: Guardians- and more. Find her entire post below:

Any time you transition to a new platform, there is the opportunity to look at things with a new perspective. For us at 343 Industries, the launch of the Xbox One was an opportunity to think about what stories we wanted to tell, how to tell them, and how best to push the Halo franchise to showcase the platform. And, most importantly, combining our passion for Halo with the vocal and informative input from our fans.

Halo isnt simply a perennial game franchise, its a part of the Xbox platform itself. In terms of innovation and ideation, its sometimes important to people who might not even play Halo. And of course its a passion and an essential experience for two generations of gamers. So we asked ourselves, how do we begin and where do we go with Halo on Xbox One?

In the past, Halo games have pushed the Xbox forward, showcasing the console and its ecosystem in entertaining and innovative ways. Making a Halo game that runs at 60 frames per second, on dedicated servers, with the scope, features and scale weve been dreaming of for more than a decade, is non-trivial. Its a task that we, at 343 Industries, are taking very seriously to ensure we deliver the Halo game that fans deserve, and a game that is built from the ground up for Xbox One.

Im happy to reveal that Halo 5: Guardians, the next installment in the legendary saga of the Master Chief, will launch on Xbox One in fall of 2015. In the tradition of every Halo game since its debut in 2001, it is a massive and exciting project.

Halo 5: Guardians is a bigger effort than Halo 4. That applies to the content and scope of the game, as well as the technology in whats now a brand new and more powerful engine. Certainly there are some core elements carried over from prior games, but weve invested a huge effort in retooling our tech to take full advantage of the Xbox Ones hardware and ecosystem to create worlds and experiences worthy of next-gen.

Its a game that will hopefully demonstrate the talent, learnings and abilities of the 343 Industries team. A game that will incorporate the things we learned from Halo 4 about technology, aesthetics, performance and scale and perhaps more importantly, understanding and embracing a community of gamers who love what lies at the heart of this game, and the limitless potential of the Halo universe.

And 2015 wont simply be the year of Halo 5: Guardians, it will also be a year that offers us a unique opportunity. The opportunity to invite old friends and new audiences into that universe through the Halo television series, launched as a unique collaboration with Steven Spielberg and some of the finest creative minds in the business. A series that will stand alone, as well as complement and enrich the game experience. Well have more to share on the Halo television series as we near its projected fall 2015 release.

Your Journey Begins in 2014

Many fans noted that I was very deliberate with my phrasing on stage at E3 last year. I spoke about a journey, rather than a destination and that journey definitely begins in 2014 with a giant leap, rather than one small step. Well give you much more information about our plans for this year at the Xbox E3 2014 Media Briefing on June 9, and were confident that Halo fans will be pretty excited the special plans we have in store.

So until E3, Id like to express my gratitude to our massive and varied Halo community, whose energy, enthusiasm, criticism and kindness are the driving force behind what we do and what we hope to achieve in Halo 5: Guardians.

I know I am in the rarity here, but I enjoy the Halo games. Whether I look forward to it or not, I know I'll buy this. Luckily 343 did a great job with 4 IMO, so I expect this one to be even better.

I will 100% be getting this. Reason 1, I want to just throw out all my dislike of previous games and give it a fresh start. And reason 2, the biggest being is my son is a Halo junkie and would forever view me as an evil bastard if I didn't get it.

I will get it as well. I loved the original Halo, but the series became stale for me after that (and I can't stand the multiplayer). I enjoyed 4 to an extent, although it was extremely short.

I'm hoping this new one brings some new ideas and a solid campaign that isn't too short. Looking forward to it.

Yeah, I agree that the campaign of 4 was way too short. I enjoyed it, but I was expecting more from that.

Im hyped for this game. As well as the Halo 2 Anniversary that's eventually going to come out. Mind you when I say I like Halo I mean the online. Ive never managed to finish any of the Halo single player games. But Ive spent hundreds of hours in the Halo series online.

Just talking about Halo brings back some of the best High school stories. In my tech class me and few buddies got Halo CE onto the school computers. Next thing I knew just about every computer in the entire school had Halo downloaded on it. We were able to do online (within the school) and play class vs class. During one quarter my teacher graded us based on how well we played Halo. Absolutely a blast......but then again maybe that's part reason why I work fast food and am bottom of the foot chain when it comes to being a useful human.

And back to Halo 5.

Mass speculation surrounds the recent announcement of Halo 5: Guardians (http://mp1st.com/category/mp-games/halo-5/). Where does the story lead? Where does developer 343 Industries go from here?
According to 343i general manager Bonnie Ross, gamers will have the chance to discover exactly that over the course of multiple upcoming Halo titles.
Ross reiterated to The Guardian (http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/may/16/halo-5-guardians-xbox-one-microsoft-bonnie-ross-343-industries) that Halo 5: Guardians is part of a story that the studio plans to tell over multiple games. “Just as with past titles, we’re being really open about the fact that we want to tell this story over more than one game – this is about Master Chief’s journey: it’s about his past and his future,” she said.
Obviously, Ross wasn’t quite able to dive into any details so soon after the game’s surprising announcement last Friday morning (http://mp1st.com/2014/05/16/halo-5-guardians-continues-master-chiefs-journey-2015/). But she explained how the studio is taking everything they’ve learned from Halo 4 and is applying that knowledge to their upcoming Halo project while taking full advantage of the Xbox One’s hardware.
“We learned a ton from Halo 4, and having the abilities we have with Xbox One… it has opened up doors on things we could never have done before,” she said. “We’re very excited but we can’t talk about any of it.”
“Any time you have a platform launch, it’s an opportunity to take a step back and think more broadly. For us, it’s almost a blank canvas. What are the stories we want to tell, how do we want to tell them, how do we use Halo to push the new platform?
“It’s also a time to listen to our fans and take their feedback on what’s important to them going forward. It’s about how do we start and where do we go on Xbox One?”

I caught two different trailers for the game while watching TV with the wife last night. I'm suddenly excited about this game again. Usually I am excited about getting in time on the MP with friends and enjoy the campaign as a supporting aspect of the game. This time though the MP seems to be of far less interest, and I am pretty stoked to see what direction they take the story for campaign.

Firefly actor Nathan Fillion will reprise his role as Gunnery Sergeant Edward Buck in Halo 5: Guardians (http://www.gamespot.com/halo-5-guardians/), it was announced this week as part of Game Informer's extended coverage (http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2015/06/09/july-cover-revealed-halo-5-guardians-923520.aspx) of the upcoming shooter.

Buck previously showed up in Halo 3: ODST (http://www.gamespot.com/halo-3-odst/) and Halo: Reach (http://www.gamespot.com/halo-reach/), but the character looks better than ever this time around, as you can see in the image embedded here.
In Halo 3: ODST, Buck was an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, meaning he had no Master Chief-like super abilities. But now we see him wearing Spartan-like armor.
Game Informer's reveal trailer also shows that Buck is part of Fireteam Osiris (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/in-halo-5-s-campaign-you-ll-always-have-three-comp/1100-6427933/), the squad led by Agent Locke and charged with hunting down Master Chief.
We're expecting more Halo 5 news at E3 next week, but for now, check out some recent stories below.

Whether you're playing Halo 5: Guardians (http://www.gamespot.com/halo-5-guardians/) alone or with others, the campaign will see you accompanied by three Spartans that can be controlled by other players or take commands from you.
The Master Chief's companions are members of Blue Team, according to Game Informer (http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2015/06/09/july-cover-revealed-halo-5-guardians-923520.aspx). Blue Team has traditionally been led by the Master Chief and is comprised of three others Spartans (Linda, Kelly, and Fred) who have been present in the overall Halo canon, but were never featured in the games themselves.

These characters will appear during cutscenes, rather than simply being partners in combat who disappear any time the story is being advanced. When playing on your own, you'll be able to give these characters commands. Alternatively, you can have co-op players assume control of them, with each one having their own distinct loadout.
The portion of Halo 5's campaign that focuses on Spartan Locke (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/e3-2014-halo-5-s-mysterious-spartan-named-agent-locke-backstory-coming-in-nightfall/1100-6420433/) will see him accompanied by a group as well, in this case Fireteam Osiris. They're tasked with tracking down the Master Chief and killing him or bringing him back after he and Blue Team are said to have gone AWOL. Locke's story is featured in theHalo: Nightfall series, and has been further expanded in the ongoing Hunt the Truth podcast (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/new-halo-5-teaser-dives-deeper-into-master-chief-s/1100-6426426/).
Both Blue Team and Osiris look to be the new Spartans who were introduced in the game's cover art back in April (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-5-cover-art-introduces-mysterious-new-spartan/1100-6426958/).
Halo 5: Guardians is due out on Xbox One (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox-one/) on October 27 (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/new-halo-5-trailers-confirm-october-release-date/1100-6426251/). Expect to hear much more about it during E3 next week.

It's also been confirmed you will NOT need Xbox Live Gold to play co-op.

That would not be correct.

As it turns out, you will need to have an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play Halo 5: Guardians (http://www.gamespot.com/halo-5-guardians/)' online co-op, Microsoft clarified this afternoon, following an initial report yesterday (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-5-getting-15-free-maps-co-op-doesn-t-require-/1100-6427945/) that said this would not be the case. That report was based on an interview that 343 Industries studio head John Holmes gave to Game Informer.

He now says in a statement (https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/community/blog-posts/clarity-regarding-halo-5-guardians-online-co-op-access) that he got it wrong.
"I misspoke during the interview when stating that online co-op campaign would be supported with an Xbox Live Silver account," Holmes said. "Co-op campaign will require Xbox Live Gold to play."

Hey XBoners!!

How much Team MP love is Halo 5 going to get. I have some interest and a couple of my local friends are getting it. I love PvP but it can get old fast lone wolfing.

Looks interesting with your normal PvP modes and Warzone seems pretty chaotic as well.

Looking to find something different to get into as this year's COD doesn't do it for me.

Blackwater and I both always get Halo...so there will be at least 2 other MPs. How much I play Halo with the barrage of other titles is the better question. I've always enjoyed both the campaign and MP sides of Halo, so I'm game to play either with you if you get the game. The campaign story for this is sounding like it will be awesome.

Review of Halo 5.

I have not yet played the campaign, so I cannot comment on the single player or co-op aspects of that yet. I do have about 4 hours in on the multiplayer so far, so the below is solely about that aspect.

Overall

Contrary to how my below review may read, I am enjoying this release a lot so far. I think it is the most stable release they have done. That was at a cost though: lackluster map graphics, less player customization options, far less game modes. For long-time Halo fans, it may be difficult to accept the direction 343 is taking things; however, if you give it a go, I assure you that you will find the multiplayer to be way smoother and balanced overall than prior releases despite the flaws. It does seem as if this release takes Halo in a direction where it is more of a generic shooter than the standalone series it has always been, but it has just enough (barely) to keep the nostalgic feelings fans of the franchise expect when they fire it up.

Postives

The backdrop (clouds, distant rocks, etc) is gorgeous. It is quick and painless to find matches in multiplayer, and it is maybe the smoothest it has been. The gameplay mechanics are fantastic and strikes a nice balance between Halo 3 and Hal 4 in a lot of ways. SWAT is back to being a hella fun mode again, which was my biggest disappointment with H4. Hit marker and aim both feel spot on. Communications are smooth, and the AI interactions in MP are better than ever. Regular slayer plays very balanced, and I think the weapons are well placed. Breakout mode can be a lot of fun, especially if you have teammates on the comms talking. I absolutely hated this mode my first match, but it quickly grew on me and is second only to SWAT as my go-to mode. One rare aspect that I appreciate these days though, the map packs will be free.

Negatives

REQ cards/packs. Imagine burn cards in Titanfall, but less balanced and you can buy them. There is no real skill involved...just luck of the draw with earned packs or enough to buy gold packs. Some of these (such as the Mantis) are so OPed it is ridiculous.

Warzone is an interesting concept on paper, but in implementation it can be rather infuriating. Given the introduction of REQ cards, it is easy for a single player to completely dominate this game mode if they have the right cards. I think with a bit of tweaking though, this game mode would be an absolute blast. I personally prefer the old ODST Firefight mode over this though.

No split-screen or system link...just disappointing to see that neither are available anymore.

Player and emblem customizations seem pretty weak compared to past releases. Maybe it's just me, but one of the aspects I thoroughly enjoyed about Halo was making my spartan or elite (which you cannot play as in this) unique. They have taken away a lot of options for armor: only get helmet, visor, and body. Colors are limited as well for both armor and emblems. Several images that have been staples in Halo are no longer present, so my image is different for the first time in a LONG time. The small things like player IDs capable of ONLY being 4 alphanumeric characters even play into this.

The Maps...the biggest disappointment of the game to me. Warzone somewhat takes the place of Big Team Battle, and these are the only maps that are a larger size and have vehicles. All of the other maps are pretty small and too similar to one another. The textures are the weakest I have seen in a Halo game since the original Halo CE (not remastered)...they are flat with very little detail overall. There are certain places where they put in great detail, such as floor grates, windows, and backdrops; however walls, normal floors, and items on the map are pretty weak compared to other Halo titles.

On the note of game reviews I can say I am a little disappointed in some aspects. I have been around halo since the release of halo combat evolved. It has always had split screen play and it was a bad move removing it. We have had some great times playing 4-8 people in the same room drinking, laughing, and cussing each other. Also the little things like the call tag. I have always used K91(top dog, number 1 k9) since the beginning. Now I have to use 4 letters/numbers. No symbols allowed.

But in the end it is a very stable release. Haven't seen that since halo 2. And it is a fun game but I think 343 needs to stay with what was working with minor changes, not changing the game

Try Swat mode man...that's pretty much all I will play in MP of Halo. The spawning is jacked up (like spawn you in the exact same spot you just died in 3 times straight kind of jacked up), as is the radar...outside of that Swat is pretty solid.

On Friday, 343 pulled a map from the multiplayer rotation and added in several new maps. All of the new maps are much more detailed and in-line with what I expected to see in the game at release. Still wish they'd fix the busted spawning in the game.

I've started stepping through the campaign, and while I haven't gotten to the end, so far I am really enjoying it. The story is solid so far (though a bit slow) and the graphics in campaign are awesome.
