Coming this fall on 360 and X1.

It’s time to crank up the stereo and hit the open road once again, as Microsoft has announced Forza Horizon 2, the next installment in their flagship racing series. Forza Horizon 2 is in development for Xbox One and Xbox 360 and due for release this fall.

The racer follows 2012’s critically acclaimed franchise spinoff Forza Horizon for Xbox 360 and 2013’s frontline Xbox One launch game Forza Motorsport 5. Development is being handled primarily by Horizon 1 studio Playground Games, though the team is collaborating closely with the Motorsport team at Turn 10 Studios; the two teams share a technology pipeline as well as select key personnel.

“[Turn 10 and Playground] share this belief that we can create a true home for racing fans on Xbox One,” said Horizon 2 creative director Ralph Fulton.

In making the leap to Xbox One, Forza Horizon 2 will include hundreds of cars, according to Playground Games, headlined by the 2015 Lamborghini Huracán. A long-awaited weather system will also make its Forza debut, while Forza 5’s Drivatar system is also being adapted for Horizon 2.

As for the game’s setting? Contrary to recent rumors, it won’t take place in the bayous of Louisiana. Instead, the game will take place in gorgeous Southern Europe, leading to, in Fulton’s words, “incredible diversity” and “amazing vistas.” Music will again play a big part in the game, and a music festival will be the central event around which the game’s activities revolve.

Extensive improvements and features are in store for Horizon 2, which IGN will showcase throughout June as part of our brand-new IGN First initiative. We traveled to Playground Games in the UK and brought back a (metric!) ton of content that we’re excited to share with you all month long, including tomorrow’s full preview of our hands-on time with the game.

Do what I used to do; one game at a time, buy it used, sell it when done, and purchase the next game on your list.

IGN: 9/10

The first Forza Horizon set a new standard for open-world racing games, and Forza Horizon 2 (http://www.ign.com/games/forza-horizon-2/xbox-one-20019290) has comprehensively updated that standard. The location is right, the car list extensive, the handling nuanced but accessible, and the visuals are excellent. Above everything it’s always fun, whether you’re in a ludicrous Land Rover race or sniffing out a hidden Barn Find. Forza Horizon 2 is Test Drive Unlimited, PGR, Smuggler’s Run, and Forza Motorsport all crammed into a T-shirt cannon and fired into your face. It wears its inspiration on its sleeves but damn if that’s not a killer combination.

Like Forza Motorsport 5, Forza Horizon 2 uses AI driver profiles from your friends list to populate your career races during single-player, as well as the world itself, removing the need for a generic gallery of trash-talking Euro jocks to function as opponents. Horizon 2 is generally better for it but it’s still too insistent on having us choose a design to immediately apply to the cars we buy. The result is a cavalcade of clipart-splattered cars cruising down the French Riviera looking far more like the kind of off-brand Hot Wheels you’d see lining the pegs at Toys “R” Us than sexy, six-figure supercars. There’s no option to explicitly disable these user designs like you can in Forza Motorsport 5, and this irritatingly spoils the game’s aesthetics somewhat. The cars I want to see in my game are the sleek, unadulterated machines we see utilised in Horizon 2’s intro; not gaudy eyesores spackled in ostentatious graphics.

Destructoid: 9.5/10

With the original Forza Horizon, we were a little disappointed in the frequency and length of the loading screens. Unfortunately, that's still the case here. Again, the loading screens aren't overwhelmingly long, but they appear before and after every single race. All that time adds up to quite a lot. It's understandable that they're there, but I could've done with less of them.

If you were a fan of the original or its simulator brother, there's no reason to pass up Horizon 2. It's simulation enough to not lose longtime fans, while easing the realistic driving just enough to allow new players to jump in and not feel like the car physics are working against them the whole time.
Every element in Forza Horizon 2 adds up to an exceptional experience. The story isn't over the top so as to get in the way of racing, driving feels as good as it ever did in Forza Motorsport, there's a ton of things to do, and the game looks absolutely beautiful -- especially the long-awaited dynamic weather system. Forza Horizon 2 is a must-have on the Xbox One.

Eurogamer: 9/10

2012's Forza Horizon, an open-word spin-off for the Xbox-exclusive series, was a supremely good start, and its sequel does not deviate from its course by one turn of the wheel. This is a game that lays claim to the spirits of such past greats as Project Gotham Racing and Test Drive and seizes them with aplomb. That's big talk, but Forza Horizon 2 is the work of a studio humming with enthusiasm and professional confidence. It's no revolution: this is an iterative, by-the-book sequel to a game that was already very good. Forza Horizon fans might find it all pretty familiar, but then Forza Horizon fans are hardly likely to mind that. Newcomers, meanwhile, will be blown away by a supposedly serious racing game that dares to be this romantic and thrilling. (It's telling that our YouTube editor Ian, who normally doesn't get on with racing games at all, is smitten with Horizon 2.)

Polygon: 7/10

Forza Horizon 2 is about the journey, not the destinations — like any good open-world game should be. But, like Forza Horizon, Forza Horizon 2 finds mixed success in that regard. Horizon 2 has all the basics down, borrowing from almost a decade of Turn 10's racing fundamentals. But when it comes to building places to use all that hardware, the game comes up a little short.

Joystiq: 4/5

If Forza Horizon 2 has a philosophy, then, it's that you're free to dig in as far as you want. That doesn't speak to the amount of content you consume, per se, but the level of personal dedication you want to apply. If you just feel like having a fun drive along a pretty road with Chvrches playing on the radio, go ahead and do it. When you're ready to bump into big trucks in the rain, staring at your screen without blinking, there'll be a suitable championship or multiplayer roadtrip for you on the next stop. There's more to the feel of driving in Forza Horizon 2 than what the post-race screen says.

Forza Horizon 2's world isn't the most lively, beset as it is by roaming bands of automotive enthusiasts, but it leaves room for the living – for you. There's space enough to imprint your moods, whether you rocket into hairpins with a Ferrari or simply cruise around in a gaudy, gold Bentley. Forza Horizon 2 is a big, bouncy summer drive.

Wait, you mean they don't have a review embargo?

Well, look at this;

Here we are a full two weeks from the release of Forza Horizon 2. Several things happened today which indicate that at the very least Microsoft is confident about the release of its Fall 2014 racer.

After the poor release handling of EA’s The Sims 4 and Activision’s Destiny, which to no shock released to lukewarm reviews, I am shocked by how far Microsoft has gone to make the release of Forza Horizon 2 as transparent as possible. While I know that not every game can be as prepared for launch as Forza Horizon 2 is, there have been far too many games in 2014 that have had veils cast in front of them before release, leaving unpleasant surprises for consumers. While it has resulted in high sales figures from pre-orders, especially in the case of Destiny which broke records with $500 million revenue, it’s also made consumers increasingly hesitant to buy games on day one.

So, what is Forza Horizon 2 doing right? Well…

A demo released today for Forza Horizon 2. It’s available to anyone, no matter if they’ve pre-ordered the game or not. This is something that the well-received Bravely Default similarly did earlier in the year, and many gamers appreciated that.
Being able to experience the game first-hand lets you decide if it’s a game that suites your tastes. Forza Horizon 2 is a game built for racing fans, but it’s designed in such a way that makes it appealing to a wider audience than the simulative Forza Motorsport. That said, it’s not going to be a game that everyone enjoys. After all, everyone is different. Whether or not you think it looks good, you can try it out and rely on your own judgement rather than that of the press. If you happen to enjoy the demo, you’ll have full confidence in your pre-order.
As far as how good the demo is, I’d go as far as to say it’s one of the best in gaming history. It includes a captivating introduction, a substantial portion of the map, several races, a few cars to choose from, and as a result is a good taste of what’s to come later this month. Things are looking very positive if early reactions on social media and forums is anything to go by.

We received our review copy today, and so did numerous other outlets. That means we get ample time to dive into this open-world racing game and see what it’s all about. That puts less pressure on us to hit the embargo date, and be as thorough as possible.
In contrast, Destiny review copies were sent out the day prior to release. Activision’s reasoning was that it’s a game that thrives on the social experience. Well, guess what? Forza Horizon 2 has tons of multiplayer features, and you could argue it’s an important part of the experience as well.
In order to ensure that pre-release reviews of Forza Horizon 2 include insight into the social side of the game, Microsoft has setup a multiplayer session calendar. So, when reviewers such as myself feel the need to interact with others, we can get our fix. Little things like this go a long way.

Starting next Monday, press are encouraged to share an hour of gameplay live with gamers via Twitch. Although there are a few restrictions to avoid spoilers regarding car unlocks, this is simply unprecedented. I’ve been in games media for numerous years, and usually the only time live streaming is allowed prior to release is when you’re IGN or another one of the top five or so outlets, or if the live streaming embargo is a day or less before release.
Because of this, we’ll be setting up a live stream for Monday so that you, as the interested consumer, can see us playing the game to check out what it’s like after the introduction shown in the demo. There’s no walking into your purchase blindly.

Forza Horizon 2‘s review embargo is Thursday, September 25th at 12:01 AM PDT. This means you’ll be able to read what many critics thought of the game nearly a full week before release. Microsoft isn’t hiding anything. You’ll see how this racer, which is one of several releasing this Fall season, has been received before it ever hits retailers.

Ultimately, this isn’t about the press, it’s about the consumer. There will be nothing surprising when September 30th rolls around. If you’re at all interested in Forza Horizon 2, by then you’ll have played it and seen enough to come up with an informed opinion for yourself. This is an example of a video game release done right.

From that review;

When it’s time to turn up the fun, you’ll definitely want to move to Online Freeroam with some of your pals. Again, you can go public and party with other strangers, but mic-ing up with your mates and getting in a private session together feels like the right way to go when you’re out to have a good laugh or smack talk. Once you’re all synced up, anyone designated as the leader can set a group waypoint to any location on the map. Use this to point out breakable signs and Barn Finds or to meet up at Bucket List challenges to tackle co-operatively. When it’s time to get a little more organized, the leader — or anyone in a public Freeroam session — can boot up any event that the World Map has to offer while selecting the class of car, time of day, and weather. Other players can participate if they wish once invited, or can simply to continue along their way freely.

Ok teach, here's step by step to get the logo. In garage go to design and paints. Apply decals. Find the section of car you want to add it to and add new layer. Select apply a vinyl shape. Hit select/back button to search. Under description enter Team MP and hit search. Voila.

Note, you can't add decals to car paints you've downloaded.

Has anyone else not been able to share their designs? I had one design that I shared for a Nissan Skyline, but then the rest of them I can't share. It doesn't give me the option. Am I doing something wrong? Do I have to start a car from scratch?

Okay, what about this. In "My Designs" I have A BMW Livery, then two other designs...call them BMW 1 and BMW 2. Can I delete those? If I'm correct, the Livery is the car that I use in the game, right? So if I delete the Livery, I will still have the car, but with no paint, correct? I've looked online and find nothing on this.

Base coat your car. Then use a gradient vinyl with the second color you want to use.

TrojanTeacher

Yup, and Retro told me that you can use many vinyls. So the one that I have on right now is a total of 5 colors. Dark red, Red, light red, light orange, yellow. All staggered on top of each other to create the diffusion effect. Retro is my paint guru thus far.

The only bad thing about painting in this game is that you get sucked into it and then 4 hours later you realize you haven't even raced yet and have spent 4 hours on painting and tuning up your car...

So what exactly is wrong with switching to awd? I switch every car I own to awd. Except for specific cars I use for drifting. Or the venom. Switching to awd with that cuts speed pretty good. Ill take a 10 launch and 10 acceleration with a 8 speed over 10 speed and 8 or so launch and acceleration.

I haven't converted any cars to AWD yet. I have two cars that are AWD, the SKYLINE and and one other car in the same class. I know once you do the conversion, the car usually jumps up in class and right now I'm trying to keep all my cars at their classes. BUT, soon enough, I'm gonna take my BMW Z4 back to the S2 that I had it at...that is...unless I buy a Bugatti.

Standalone DLC (you don't have to own the full game) coming next month. It's titled Forza Horizon 2 presents Fast & Furious. It releases March 27 and will be free through April 10, thereafter it's $10. If you download it during the free time it's yours to keep.

Microsoft and Universal Pictures are working together for a free standalone Forza Horizon 2 game featuring cars and missions inspired by the Fast & Furious movie franchise.

The Associated Press broke the news. Universal executive Bill Kispert said the film company had been talking with Forza developer Turn 10 for "years" now about a potential partnership. The stars finally aligned.

The game--called Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious--will be released on March 27 for Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Being a standalone game, it won't require Forza Horizon 2. The game will be free until April 10 in a bid to promote the release of Furious 7, the latest entry in the blockbuster movie franchise that hits theaters on April 3.

After April 10, the game will cost $10.

Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious is set before the events of the movie. In it, you'll play as a driver in France who must acquire cars for mechanic Tej Parker, played by Ludacris in the movies and the game. Some of the cars from Furious 7 that will appear in the game include the 1970 Dodge Charger R/T, 1998 Toyota Supra, 1970 Plymouth Road Runner, and the 2014 Maserati Ghibli S.

Turn 10 studio head Alan Hartman said the developer had no interest in making "another movie-based game," going to on say that the studio's collaboration with Universal is something different.

"When we started talking about this with Universal years ago, it was really about bringing both of our franchise's strengths to the table," he said. "We're building on top of everything we've done over the last decade."

This isn't the first Fast & Furious video game. In addition to some smartphone titles, Activision produced Fast & Furious: Showdown in 2013 for consoles and PC.

Finally, Hartman teased that working with Universal on the Fast & Furious project has been a "grand experiment." He teased that it could pave the way for how Turn 10 approaches projects going forward. "I don't want to end it after this, so we'll see what's possible in the future," he said.

No images or video of Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious have been released. We'll have those assets for you as soon as they become available.

Official:

Today, Xbox and Universal Partnerships & Licensing announced an unprecedented partnership to bring a unique, standalone expansion to millions of Xbox fans worldwide.

For the first time, the thrilling driving and amazing cars of Forza, the highest-rated racing series of the past 10 years, are combining with the blockbuster Fast & Furious film franchise to create an original adventure filled with high-speed automotive action in Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious.

Launching on March 27, 2015, Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious is a standalone expansion to Forza Horizon 2 for Xbox One and Xbox 360. The all-new expansion will put players behind the wheel of iconic vehicles from the Fast & Furious film series, including exciting new cars appearing in Universal Pictures’ Furious 7, in theaters April 3. Players do not need to have purchased or played Forza Horizon 2 in order to download and enjoy the open-world adventure.

“Forza is synonymous with racing and fun, so it’s only natural for us to work with one of the most celebrated automotive entertainment franchises in the world,” said Phil Spencer, head of Xbox. “This is a great way to bring Forza players into the world of Fast & Furious, and in Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious, every fan will get a chance to go wheels-first into the exciting action of the Fast & Furious franchise.”

To celebrate the launch of Furious 7, this standalone expansion will be available at no charge for a limited two-week period. Beginning on March 27 and continuing through April 10, 2015, players can download the expansion on Xbox One or Xbox 360 at no charge. After April 10, the expansion will cost $10, but players who downloaded it for free during the two-week window can continue to play without restriction.

“Furious 7 is the latest installment in our enormously successful franchise, and partnering with the world-class team at Turn 10 Studios offered an exceptional opportunity to thank our fans in an exciting way,” said Bill Kispert, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Digital Platforms, Universal Partnerships & Licensing. “In this adventure, fans will experience the thrill of the Fast & Furious series’ most iconic cars through the amazing gameplay of Forza. We can’t think of a better combination for gamers and movie fans alike.”

In Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious, players will be recruited by Fast & Furious expert mechanic Tej Parker, voiced by Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, to source cars for the Fast & Furious crew’s next big mission. Players will take part in a series of thrilling car challenges set in the idyllic south of France, challenges inspired by both the Fast & Furious films and Forza’s legendary gameplay.

As players complete game challenges, they will unlock new cars that can be added to their collection and can be driven throughout the open world in free roam play. Players will also be able to take photos of their favorite cars in Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious and share them with fellow Forza players via the official Forza Web site and the Forza Hub app on Xbox One.

See below for a list of some of the special edition vehicles that will be featured in the game:

1970 Dodge Charger R/T Fast & Furious Edition
2012 Nissan GT-R Fast & Furious Edition
1998 Toyota Supra Fast & Furious Edition

1970 Plymouth Road Runner Fast & Furious Edition
