Cancellation of Patriots and first info on new game.

Because Rainbow Six Siege is "multiplayer first," Ubisoft isn't saying much about its single-player campaign -- quite the opposite of its approach to Rainbow Six Patriots, a now-dead (http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/12/13/rainbow-6-patriots-had-to-be-remade) shooter with polar-opposite philosophies. Where Patriots relied on cutscenes, quick-time events, and explosive set-pieces, Rainbow Six Siege leans more on its online innovation to fuel its story.
"We were tired of single-player, scripted military missions where things appear triggered by player presence," Ubisoft Montreal creative VP Lionel Raynaud told IGN. "We want to refresh that. We want the same level of intensity and surprise scripted scenes used to have, but within a multiplayer game."

To that end, campaign missions can be played in any order, akin to Mega Man's open-ended level selection. Renaud said, "The way you play the missions is open, you choose the order. Its dynamic, meaning we will bring new content as players play the mission." He did not elaborate on what that dynamism entailed, but it's likely that the environmental destruction -- which affects multiplayer level navigation and player line of sight -- will play an important role in solo sieges.
Rainbow 6 Patriots was announced back in 2011 (http://www.ign.com/articles/2011/11/03/rainbow-6-patriots-confirmed). It went dark shortly after, and in 2013, Ubisoft told IGN that Rainbow Patriots "had to be remade (http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/12/13/rainbow-6-patriots-had-to-be-remade)." By then, had already Ubisoft started shifting away from the Patriots vision, before eventually arriving at a close-quarters, attack/defend multiplayer game in Rainbow Six Siege, which has been in development for 18 months, and launches next year.
Siege has a development team of 150 strong, and it's the rare case of a Ubisoft game under the sole control of a single studio. The team at Ubisoft Montreal isn't directly developing Rainbow Six with another studio, though it's sharing technology and resources with Ubisoft as a whole.

Communication is the biggest part of all Tom Clancy games. I love the tactical pacing in these games.

What if the people in your squad are communicating to you that you should go F your mother? In all seriousness I think the squad play in this looks like so much fun. Reminds me of a much more tactical Search and Destroy game mode.

This needs to be released, like yesterday.

In Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft hopes that the no respawn rule always in effect will change the way you think about playing modern first-person shooters. No game mode demonstrates that better than Siege’s Hostage Rescue, which, so far, is the only mode the studio has put on display for fans anxious to see the return of the classic tactical shooter.

In Hostage Rescue, the hostage is, naturally, the focal point of the match. But, what happens when players ignore the objective all-together and end up playing the mode like a game of Team Deathmatch? According to Ubisoft, it is often the case, but isn’t really an issue.
“A round ending in TDM isn’t necessarily a bad thing,” said Game Designer Chris Lee in a recent blog entry on the studio’s official website. “The hostage (or any objective) is there to provide areas of interest for firefights to happen. Players naturally gravitate towards the objective because of the incentive/threat. As soon as they close in on him or her, the tensions rise and everyone acts more carefully. The fact that the hostage isn’t being extracted all the time isn’t really an issue for us.”

That said, the studio admits that the “defending team not seeing the hostage as a threat, and thus roaming free around the map,” can be an issue that developers hope to address with two methods: making hostage escort and extraction easier and improving the game’s interaction system.
Lee touched on the importance of having a singular and meaningful objective in a game like Siege.
“Usually, other games go around the issue by having two objective locations separated out. In Siege however, we want to create a strong fortified area as a point of interest. When you have multiple objectives, the siege isn’t as strong since the defenders are forced to go all in in one location or spread out too thin.”
Later in the blog, Ubisoft promises new game modes in the future “with multiple objective locations that fits easier with the no respawn rule in effect.”
“We want to put you in the position of actually caring about what you’re trying to accomplish and working with your team for something bigger than any individual,” says Ubisoft.
Rainbow Six Siege is aiming for release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC next year.

Preordering this game gives you access to the closed beta. If you are unsure about purchasing, or want to get it digital, do what I did.

Amazon does not charge until item ships, so preorder through there. Within 24 hours you'll get an email with a code to register for the beta. After you register, just cancel your preorder. Done and done.

Several weeks after the conclusion of Rainbow Six Siege (http://mp1st.com/category/rainbow-six/)‘s Closed Alpha on PC, developer Ubisoft is sharing a few notable statistics as the studio moves along in development.
“There were several topics of feedback that were consistent across the community, and soon we will be updating you with how we are addressing them,” Ubisoft wrote in a recent blog update (http://rainbow6.ubi.com/siege/en-US/news/detail.aspx?c=tcm:152-201758-16&ct=tcm:148-76770-32&ncid=209-2559-None--2-odsocmed-16-22-R6SInfographic1_FB--17-19-10-0515).
“Until then, we thought it would be fun to share an infographic displaying some of the gameplay stats captured during this testing period.”
Check it out and tell us in the comments which Operator class and which weapons you favored during the Closed Alpha.

Rainbow Six Siege's DLC maps will be free, Ubisoft has promised.

The team-based multiplayer shooter launches with 11 maps, Ubisoft said, and in an effort to encourage players to stick with it, all post-launch maps will be free to download.

Here's a statement Ubisoft sent over this morning:

"At launch, Rainbow Six Siege will have 11 maps, playable both day or night, all using the full potential of our Real Blast destruction technology. In addition, all post-launch maps will be downloadable for free.

"We want players to stay with us for the long term and have ambitious post-launch plans that we will detail at a later stage."

Rainbow Six Siege is due out on 1st December 2015. A closed beta begins on 24th September.

I did not seem to have severe connection problems in the technical test. Found games quite easy and if not I just quit lobby and rejoin which seemed to work. My biggest problem though is that I struggle to aim/fire with R2/L2 on PS4. I have always used R1/L1 in shooters and checking under controller options there is no scheme that's supports this which makes playing uncomfortable for me. Otherwise the game is pretty decent and tense. Hopefully this option will be available during beta or launch.

Tom Clancy titles like Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon are not ones you want to play with randoms!

The technical test would have only scratched the surface of the game, but this statement is so true. Having only ever relied on AI teammates when I used to play Rainbow Six, I wasn't expecting randoms to be so utterly useless.
As you guess, the team killing is infuriating, but other aspects like destroying your cover/ barricades, shooting your equipment is equally frustrating.
But one of the worst aspects is building up your character so they are all ready to head into battle, then said random just chooses your character so you are left with the crappy players. You've got to be quick on those buttons to secure your favourite character.

At least when you are in a squad of friends you can confirm which character you are running and work some form of tactic in to the game.

But overall, despite all its problems I thought it was a really fun game and one that I'm sure I will buy at some point this Winter.

Bugs I encountered that you may see over the weekend were:-

Connection failure, where do I begin? Numerous examples over 3 days.
Matchmaking does not balance.
Game freezing if host drops out. Only remedied by closing application.
Random game freezing.
Shield/ pistol is incredibly overpowered
No Renown given on numerous games with variety of different soldiers.

Not that bad compared to some hideous betas that have come out on the PS4

Can confirm the remap worked. Just have to turn setting off again when playing another game.

The highlight of my week on the beta was last night when I thought I'd give the new AI attack mode a try.

After a few games with my usual character I thought I'd try a different one that I hadn't used much. We had been in the same group for a few games and we're building a nice rhythm , several guys were on mic and two of them were pretty young.

So I pick this new character and sit in the countdown lobby when I hear this kid squeaking in my ear... "Oh you f***ing a**hole Major Stan! You stole my f***ing character you f***ing shit...I'm gonna f*** you up Major Stan"

I was pissing myself with laughter and decided to do what any right minded person would do. I went in game and committed suicide with said character... Lol his reaction was priceless.

Anyway, I thought it was a fun mode. And really caught me by surprise when one of the AIs charged at 2 teammates and detonated themselves.
A suicide bomber AI!?!

Good times.

Still had connection difficulties, but nothing on the beginning of the week.

That's pretty much the case, but on the plus side I've found it forces me to become more versatile. Meaning I would usually find my preferred classes and stick with them, but if you don't have that choice within the squad you have to pick a lesser used Operator. And you suddenly realise they hold some pretty damn fun gadgets.
Eg I love the lady with the Shock Drone, mid match you can whip it out and find the campers and shoot electric probes up their ass. Before I would have overlooked a class like that!

Excellent games last night, i have put quite a lot of hours in on this Beta, apart from a few issues with getting into games and the occasional kick, i am really impressed, i have played the same maps over and over and i am still not bored!

I feel that the short duration of each match is spot on, the weapons and gadgets all seem very good to me, but most importantly it is the team work needed for success! Also having seen some comments about camping - then you dont understand what the game is all about!

I can honestly say that the balance of attack or defense has been so well done, that to win is about how good your tactics and teamwork are and not who has the best weapon or who is defending (camping)!

Love it and looking forward to spending some serious MP time with you Guys!

Completely agree with everything you said. The one complaint I have so far is that the shield seems to be OP a bit. I would like to see the person carrying the shield not be able to use a weapon while it's up. Other than that I'm loving the game. Last night was good times and it's a day one purchase for me!

Rainbow Six Siege Beta Extended

Publisher Ubisoft has announced the closed beta for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege has been extended until October 1.

"We've been getting good feedback on the content of the beta, and matchmaking and server stability have already been improved. There are still a few issues to work out, of course, and we will continue to do that over the course of the beta."

It continued: "Given the current situation, weve made the decision to extend the Closed Beta by three days. It will run through Thursday, October 1st."

It would have been an absolute nightmare of a beta for me not to buy this, but it has been a fantastic one so far. As I told HC, last night I got on to play on quick round and wound playing for over an hour. Despite being only 3 maps and two modes, it is not getting stall for me; and I have put in a LOT of hours so far on it. Definitely keeping my preorder.

I was REALLY hoping that there would be a single player campaign that hearkened back to the originals, where you had to plan out every aspect of an extraction before executing. Not having a SP on this does kinda suck, but given the fact that all future content (maps, weapons, etc) will be free instead of requiring an additional $60 "season pass" I think this game is still worth the money for me.

It is disappointing not to have some form of campaign, because it was always something you could guarantee Ubisoft doing a good job with.
But as Don mentioned, they appear to be honouring all of the maps without the 'stealth' charges that usually come with map packs.

Compare this to Star Wars Battlefront 3 which is also being released with no campaign in the traditional sense, and you can bet EA will still sting us all for any future bolt on content.

What was the XBox game with no SP? Was it Titanfall?
That's was well received regardless of the lack of campaign.

Retro
09-29-2015, 01:45 PM
Yup Titanfall had no real campaign. Honestly most of the big FPS titles these day, I don't care for a campaign as they seem to all suck. Outside of games like Far Cry where the focus is still very much on the single player, everything else is about the multiplayer, either PvP or co-op.

That said, I loved the last Ghost Recon single player so I'm sure a R6 one would be great. If they made it like the old games, like Rogue Spear with player perma-death and pre-mission planning it would be great.

Thank you for participating in the Closed Beta

10/07/2015 12:00 PM

Over the last couple of weeks, Rainbow Six fans from across the globe played in the biggest testing period of our game yet. We want to say thank you to everyone who participated and gave us valuable feedback. It’s been a long road to get to this point and we really appreciate having you be a part of the journey. Everyone who participated in the Closed Beta will be getting a special weapon skin at launch as our way of saying thanks.

The primary focus was to test matchmaking and push the limits of our online infrastructure. As our online architect, Lorenzo Aurea, says, “every issue you experience during the beta is potentially one less issue you’ll see at launch.” We made some temporary improvements to matchmaking during the testing period, but now we move on to implementing long term solutions that should provide a much smoother experience at launch.

Of course, the gameplay and your feedback from the Closed Beta is very important for us too. In a couple of weeks we’ll release an infographic detailing some of the more interesting gameplay stats we found. We’re also currently reviewing the feedback we received on the subreddit and forums, across social channels, and directly from players streaming or sharing their gameplay content. We’re currently sending out surveys and some players will be selected to participate in a feedback deep-dive on a private forum. As we did after the Closed Alpha, we’ll follow up in the next few weeks with a blog post detailing how we’re addressing that feedback (don’t worry, we know shields and bombers are at the top of that list!).

This was a massive undertaking for the development team and we learned a lot in the process. For a game that we plan on supporting over the long term after launch, this was a critical milestone and we’re thankful that you all made it possible. We hope you had a good time and we’ll talk to you again soon.

Rainbow Six Siege is primarily a multiplayer game, but it does have a handful of single-player missions called Situations you’re able to enjoy alone, at your own pace. It's by no means a campaign, like kind we saw in Rainbow Six Vegas, but at least there's something here for people who prefer to go lone wolf.

There were five in the version of Siege we played, plus an extra one which was locked, but there will be 11 in the final game. They serve as helpful introductions to the different operators you’re able to use in multiplayer, and also highlight some of the gameplay mechanics such as breaching and defending in live-fire combat situations. Turned it on later and got in one game after a lot of waiting, got beat, the round finished and the server crashed.

Had fun playing with Spike4hand last night, wish more of you could have joined us. We got several matches in with other random players before the game started having connection issues. We really need a full squad of MP's if possible so we can work together. The randoms, well... They do random things.

Yeah Mike - nice playing with you. Freakin blueberries are so annoying.

I'm a little scared of how the quality of the game is when it's this close to launch and their servers can't handle the open beta.

However, I have to say the graphics and shooting mechanics of the game are top notch and I really liked the super-challenging game play that clearly is designed to force teamwork and communication.

I'm hoping that the bugs are fixed and that they ultimately make the "Terrorist Hunt" (PVE) modes a little bit easier than what they were in the beta. I'm up for a challenge, but I like to have some kind of clue that I can get it done in a couple of tries on the easiest difficulty.

I'm still on the fence about purchasing. My B-day is 12-15, so maybe I'll wait a couple of weeks to see if they get it running better and if we get good group of MP's interested and/or playing. I think if the reviews are good we'll see some drift over from SW:BF, which I believe is too shallow of a game.

Glad to hear some folks are having a decent experience with the beta. I decided to check it out yesterday and the experience went like this:

1. Try to get in a Casual match, but matchmaking never came up with a single person, much less a squad.
2. Join a Ranked match, pick rookie operator, watch the loadout screen go by in a few seconds without getting to check anything out.
3. Preparation phase starts, squadmates shoot each other and me, 1 guy left standing.
4. Try to figure out the observation modes and wait out the match, since if I let I wouldn't be allowed to play again for 15 minutes.
5. Next match starts, I'm controlling some camera drone thing which I can't move more than 10 feet before it glitches/rubberbands backwards.
6. Attack phase starts, get teamkilled by the first squadmate who sees me.
7. Match ends, game never starts the next match, just sort of hangs in limbo menus.
8. Restart game, finally get into a squad that doesn't kill each other. Play 2 very short matches where the first time I see an Op4 I saw them first, shot first, put 2-3 bursts on target, they turned around and one shot me.

So, with 3 days to launch there's pretty much no way I'm throwing money at this. Maybe if I knew I'd have a full squad of friendlies to play with regularly it might be worth it. The bugs will hopefully get patched quickly, though honestly the release should be delayed until they've got things working. This beta probably should have taken place a month or more ago to allow time to deal with the problems that are showing up. But, between the bugs and the trolls, and the built in punishiment for leaving a match where you don't get to play because some asshole TK'd you, I've got to pass. Not going to pay money for a game that in the course of an hour I only got 2 opportunities to take a shot at anything.

I love the gameplay of R6 but the truth is, Team MP is not the group for it. You need people dedicated to it and I do not see that happening here. With the last Ghost Recon game I ended up having to join up with a different clan to play it after it died off here in about a week. I was really looking forward to it but I just do not see it taking off around here and I have no interest in finding other players to play it.

I wish someone pointed this out to me 'before' I wasted time trying to get new recruits to join.
In fact is there any point anyone joining Team MP, because at the end of the day we are only casual parent gamers with more important things on our minds than coordinated team play, God forbid I might have to go see to my kids and let the side down during a match.
Maybe I'd better stick to offline single player games more suited to gamers of my ilk.

Pretty sure we've had folks joining up specifically for this game, and I'd imagine there will be some MP veterans playing too. Maybe not as many new guys showing up for this as for battlefront, but more than none.
Time will tell what the MP interest or longevity will be for this game. But no point shooting the horse just because it might break a leg sometime down the road.

I wasn't thoroughly impressed with the beta. My first shot at it was actually probably the worst online gaming experience I've ever had. But the game has potential and I don't see why this is the wrong place for it.
You might as well say that this game isn't for folks with kids, because we can't manage to be hardcore enough. Or that Team MP isn't for anyone not in the Central or Eastern time zones since that's where most of our members are, and most folks are on during a time slot that works for those folks.

I'd certainly have more folks to squad up with if I joined a team with more than 3.5 players on the west coast. But I haven't and don't intend to.
Of course, if that's how anyone feels, they are welcome to do whatever they need to. So if there aren't enough folks playing the game around here, we won't have a problem with folks seeking other clans to find people to play with.

There is no escaping the fact that the beta doesn't have still glaringly obvious server/ team based issues. But the games I played earlier were really enjoyable.

As it was running late I opted to back out of a lobby as there were too many MPs for one 5 man squad. With members from the US, UK and the EU all enjoying it and really looking forward to R6:S moving forward. I don't see why this wouldn't be a keeper as long as Ubisoft iron out the issues.

There is a very positive buzz around this game on the PS4 and I can't wait to join MPs as a Christmas Noob. It has been a pleasure welcoming new members and getting some games in with them over the past couple of days.
We've lucked out as they are all a great addition to the clan, wanting to get involved in helping promote the game, joining in on the mic and the forums and kicking ass in the good name of The Mamas & Papas!

Let me know after 3 weeks if it's still active with people playing - together - on a consistent basis then I just might. But seeing that over the last 3 years I spent over $1500 on games that people were going to play together and never did, you'll have to forgive me if I choose to now take a wait and see approach, especially with a game that demands players work together and playing with randoms is useless.

I joined for rainbow six. I love the open beta. We had a good session tonight. The only problem was squad size. We benched the boss man. I love the fact that we don't claim to be hardcore. My kids would never give me the time to practice enough to ever claim to be hardcore. The game has a lot of potential and honestly I have been losing interest in modern fps games. R6S puts a new unique spin on shooters that has really grabbed my attention. I think it will do great by us.

I agree with you that it really does suck to buy a game to play with others and you have nobody to play it with. Rainbow Six Siege is very much TEAM based, to put it simple, if you don't work together, YOU WILL NOT WIN. I grow tired of playing with randoms that just want to blow up every wall, barge into a room with guns blazing and absolutely no plan, and ruining the game. In order to enjoy playing the game you have to work together with your squad mates, develop a plan of attack or defense, use your gadgets wisely, use cover the way it was intended, protect your health, DONT leave your wingman :) ... I had to throw that last one in, but it's true! If you can do all of that, you will have a BLAST playing this game.

You don't need to be a hardcore killing machine to win this game, you just need to be a hardcore team player, willing to work together as a unit, to WIN!

The reason why we are playing 5 man squads and not 36 man platoons like Battlefield 4 (which I love that game too) is to encourage us as a smaller group to work together.

Stealth and Strategy, NOT Spray and Pray. If you want to kick down doors and barge into rooms with guns blazing, play Call of Duty.

If you get the game Retro, I'll be your wing man.... err you can be my wingman any day.

I also agree that if we can't work together than the game will totally blow, and I will be forced to look for a clan group of players that do want to play R6:S the way the developers intended it to be played.

Game has serious potential, even with how frustrating the beta was. When we finally did get in a squad of 5, and were able to get into a game together it was great. Too bad it was like doing a colonoscopy prep to get there. (Yes - I am that old).

I get the dumbshit award of the night for rappelling up to a window just as somebody activated their breaching charge. DOH!!

Sorry to Stains for taking his spot in the squad. I was the slow pony in getting into the game after the servers came back up, and should have sat out but it wasn't clear who was in and who was out. Next time I think when we have a group of more than 3 we should just use party chat so that we stay in comms even when the game doesn't keep us connected.

Be careful calling Stains the boss though. He's british and you never know when he might just start calling this place his empire.

Best part of the night by far though was teaming up with some new MP's. I hope you guys stick around no matter what.

I'm not buying at launch, but will keep a very close eye on it to see how well it's reported to be working. Would like to see the connection issues worked out, and some easier PVE or single player content so that the game has value even when not squadded up.

It's only beta aswell, really hard to play when you either get disconnected or the servers are constantly down. Anyway, I have eventually managed to finish a terrorist hunt on normal with a decent group. The only way we managed it was by all sticking together but then there is a chance of friendly fire due to tight spaces. Other groups have entered the building already before I have even tagged enemies with the camera so naturally we failed terribly. I have also tried the lone wolf which is quite challenging. I will definitely be buying this but most likely two weeks after launch so the kids can give it to me for my birthday.

Why all the negativity surrounding this game? If this is not the group for it then why are you wasting the time of players like me joining your clan to play? Why not just delete this section of your message board? I mean if this group lacks dedication, why dedicate anything towards the game? I for one, am not impressed with all this lack of support.

Last I checked the game was in beta testing right? That means the developer allows you to play for FREE so that we can help work the bugs out before the official release. Yes, this developer has a history of server problems at the start, but they are quickly resolved and Rainbow Six titles have always had great longevity. Maybe I should ask for a refund on my preorder, because according to some of you this game sucks.

Thank you Ubisoft for creating a FPS that requires someone to put a little thought into their actions and adds consequences for foolish players that lack any type of game experience other than run and gun. Thank you for developing a game that promotes teamwork.

Oh wait, what am I thinking, we are bashing the game... I guess I should complain about the fact that this game is original and lacks the same thing every other FPS offers. Why can't all games be more like Call of Duty? Why would anyone buy something that dares to be original? Why would a group that is not dedicated enough, dedicate a message board to this awful game? Why am I even still typing...

You're still typing because you are passionate about a game and that enthusiasm should be encouraged around here.
Team MP is a broad church with gamers enjoying a huge variety of different styles of games. If we all liked the same thing it would get real dull real quick.

Team MP needs a game like R6:S just like it needs every other game out there.
We are gamers, and many of us have played video games for over 4 decades.
Just because a game involves a bit of thought doesn't mean that we, as busy parents can't even attempt it.
You know any friends that play a team sport for fun? Have you tried telling them that they should not play it because they don't have the dedication or the right level of skills to pursue it to the full? No, I don't think so.
We do it for the the challenge, for the fun and to remind ourselves that even though our lives are full on with family commitments, we can still turn that one game around and win it for the Team.

To all our new members, even though Team MP is a pretty casual clan, it can be what you make it. If you want to commit time to organise and strategising game nights/ events amongst other members that share that goal, then that's brilliant. Go for it.
The forums are here to create such things, use them to your advantage and make yourselves at home.
But word to the wise, proceed with caution and don't expect every member to dedicate set times, routines, game nights. Because being a clan of mainly parent gamers you are aware that shit happens, kids get sick, you have to help with homework, whatever. Family comes above all and if people start yelling that other members aren't hardcore enough then it is guaranteed to end in tears.
It has before and it will again.

This place generally has something for most people, but then again it can't please all the people all the time.

Hopefully they way we approach R6:S will stand us in good stead for The Division.
Unless we aren't the right type of clan for that either?

Yes, this developer has a history of server problems at the start, but they are quickly resolved and Rainbow Six titles have always had great longevity.

I think most of the concerns/complaints about the beta at this point are due to the fact that the game releases in a couple of days. If they haven't fixed the problems by this point what are the chances they will be fixed by Tuesday? Back in the olden days, a free preview of the game a few days before release was called a "Demo". And in that same vein, this close to release, it's natural for us to feel like what we are seeing in the beta/demo is what we are going to be getting in exchange for $$ on December 1.

Now, I'm sure they will fix a lot of the problems before long. So I'm hoping to see the opposite of what some folks have been concerned about and instead of interest falling off after a couple weeks, I'm hoping that once bugs are fixed, members who have held off on picking the game up will read about it, see other MP's saying 'things are working, the game is great!' and decide to pick it up and join in.

And fear not we'll be supporting the game, and giving it a place of prominence along with all the other games MPs are playing. And it'll stay in that spot as long as folks continue to play, which hopefully will be for quite some time.
You'll have to excuse some of the opionated old coots and codgers around here. No one means any harm and stick around long enough and you'll get familiar with all the various "personalities" and see that everyone has bad days here and there and can come across harsher than intended at times in our passion for games.

I think a lot of us are cautious about the game cause we all remember Homefront. [emoji16][emoji23][emoji16][emoji23]

I agree fully with what Stains said about Team MP is what you make it. What is being provided here is a tool for building a community - not necessarily an already-built community for a new game like R6. Help to build the community and it will meet your needs.
The only real rule is that there can be no expectations on a gamers' abilities and/or time commitment. I've played with most of you new guys, and we had a great time under less than ideal situations. I think it's awesome that you're here and hope you stick around with us.

I, for one, am hoping that R6 is hugely successful and that we end up with a thriving, growing group of guys playing it - both long time MP's and FNG's - and I I believe that everyone on MP wants to see that as well.

I can't speak for Retro, but I bet he would be happy to be proven wrong (although you'll have to wait in line to take a whack at him [emoji12][emoji39]).

My opinions are based on being here for over 5 years and seeing many games simply fall to the way side. My hope is that R6 takes off here.

I would not drop the message board simply because one game or one type of game doesn't seem to get traction within the group, that would be idiocy. I do not recruit for this particular game either, others who believe it will be embraced have done so and they should continue to do so if they feel it will work. I certainly hope it works for them and new members. If the game ends up being strong and supported, I'll gladly pick it up.

Managed two matches last night but had a bad day at the office. It seems best to first unlock a couple of operators and then concentrate on attachments to ensure you have at least an operator to pick at the start of a round. Last night scarred me and I might have to take a beer with tonight to steady the hands and the hart rate. Might possibly do the "situations" first to earn renown to unlock some operators for multiplayer.

donhardeone

Yep. What little I have gotten to play so far, I am focusing predominantly on unlocking operators before I work on attachments and such. I hate having to treat it like a race to get the operator I have unlocked, easiest solution is to unlock them all and get used to playing with each of them.

I have some early favorites of course (such as Fuze and Smoke), but each operator has something kick-ass about them that makes it worth unlocking.

Each special ops force has 4 operators. The first operator in each force costs you 500 renown to unlock, the second costs 1000 renown to unlock, the third 1500, and the last unlock is 2000 renown. To unlock all four operators in a given force would cost you a total of 5000 renown.

Got the game yesterday and started doing the situations last night. Made it through number 6 - which took quite a few tries.

I think the gameplay in this game is amazing and a real challenge. I can see myself revisiting these situations multiple times to try different attack routes and tactics.

Looking forward to some games with MP's this weekend. I'm way behind, so hoping you guys will have some patience with me.

Game is really well made and hugely addicting. I played a little yesterday with tph and Bravo. We went like 1-3 in multiplayer. The game modes in that seem a little LOL as it really just comes down to team deathmatch with no revives.

Also played a shit-ton of Terrorist Hunt after all you Euros went to bed. That game is really fun and strangely addicting. The bomb defuse one is the hardest, but for whatever reason for me it didn't come up in the rotation all that much.

Pretty good variety of maps.

Overall, I'm assigning an 8.5 only cause the game could have used a little more single player or co-op stuff and it is pretty shallow. However, the graphics, gun play, destructability, variety of operators, etc. are all top notch and imo move the bar higher for shooters.

I just have to say Siege is just about the best tactical shooter I've come across in years. The only game I've played that comes close is a ten year old pc game called SWAT 4. Any of you played it? Similar gameplay where a team of 5 of da po-lice goes toe to toe with terrorists w hostages. Sadly, I never got to play it in coop, but the game also allowed you to play with AI team members you as a squad leader could order around. Could be a nice addon for Siege, IMO.

Thing I like the most about Siege is the tension of moving through the bulidings, clearing room by room, not knowing what to expect, with the added worry of imminent death and no respawn.

Coop in this environment is awesome, maybe even at its best playing as a team against 22 AI terrorists, as opposed to 5 skilled multiplayer opponents. Might have something to do with my old man reflexes, I admit. As a parent with 2 older kids and one 1yr old I don't get to play a lot, but I hope to get the chance to share some memorable moments of team play with fellow MPs over the next few months. Btw - is there a thread where you post your typical time-of-day for gaming?

This R6:S Squad (http://www.teammp.net/VB_TeamMP/showthread.php?11292-Rainbow-Six-Siege-Squad-HQ) thread was started by request for that purpose, but as you can see it isn't too well populated.

But I agree with your post, R6 is great, made even better with the addition of MPs watching your six!

Swat on PC was awesome! I loved how you could stack your AI team by doors and then command everyone to breach the room at the same time. My most used order was probably breach with flashbang. Also, another great feature was being able to tie up hostages for their own safety and ordering criminals to give up for the arrest or risk dying. The atmosphere was great in that game.

I've been enjoying the tactical aspect to this game. I enjoy the measure of thought involved in getting scouting information and planning how to respond to your situation. However, as much as I love this game, I find the multiplayer aspect to the game quite intimidating. I guess its because Ive never really played a fps online before, but I found that if you get into a bad squad ( meaning people who make fun / rude/ mean), it can significantly affect how comfortable I am as a player. I know I suck, but I dont want to be reminded about it. And contrary to belief, I want to improve, too.

In the information section about R6:S season pass, it says you get a weeks early access to 8 new operators. Does that mean there are still 6 in the making?

If so, it's not unlikely there will be two more JTF2s (def), and a whole team (atk + def) probably from Japan.

But - do you think this means we get a minimum of one new map for each pair of operators - a total of three new maps still to look forward to? Or is that stretching?

I really hope Ubi will commit to this game, producing some interesting DLC in the coming months. I'd be happy even to pay extra for some more decent maps, operators, extra weapons and gadgets and other fun stuff I can't think of at the moment. R6:S is a great game, but since maps are small and rounds are short, they need to renew for replay value more often than say Battlefield or even SW:Battlefront.

Thoughts?

It looks like one map per pair of operators which is not enough in my opinion. Why were these last 2 operators and map free? They should release 4 DLC's, 2 operators and 2 maps for each DLC but even that is a bit watered down for the price.

DC - Frost and Buck aren't free - you get them with season pass or you have to unlock'em with a boatload of renown (which you can buy, no doubt). The first few maps should be free, I think, since it's still close to launch and the game itself doesn't have that many to begin with.

More solo missions is interesting, Spike. I really liked Article 5. The fact that it has a back story and an elaborate environment adds to the atmosphere. The map is really big too, which gives a whole lot of options and replay value. I wish we could get a few more like that. Fighting terrorists at Hereford base doesn't have the same feel, you know? Maybe develop new game modes. Make bigger maps and use them with different game modes like the BF series does. Why is it always just the one hostage fx.? Why not two, or even more, in different locations on a big map.

Impressive achievement motivation, DC. Hats off to you. And yes, TH normal mode is where teamwork comes to die. Probably from a TK.

Yes, normal mode is terrible. In a way the developer is partly responsible for adding such trophies like completing 100 matches and killing 2500 terrorists. What happens now.....guys running around rambo style, ripping all the barricades off entrances trying to poach all the kills, others getting upset, friendly fire, voting people to be kicked, blowing up the hostage, etc....it's terrible. Normal also only has 4 rounds of defending instead of the 5 on hard. Atleast on hard and realistic they will be killed swiftly for going rambo.

Forgot to mention....kill 200 terrorists with bullet penetration!! Now trying setting up a door way with a barricade to achieve this and then John Rambo comes along and rips it off again. After you are happy that he is finished behaving like a child on a sugar rush you place the barricade back up only for him to hear gun fire, come running back and ripping it off again as he is so scared he will miss out on a kill. :ak::frusty:

GRRowl74
02-23-2016, 07:08 AM
Feel your pain. About that penetration kill trophy - Bandit might be a good choice for that. Electric wire in front of a barricaded doorway will give you the extra tip-off from sound when there's someone at the door.. Also, they're stuck, so killing them through the door should be easy enough. Doesn't solve your "godawful teammate" problem though. Lone wolf/squad only is the only bulletproof remedy there, I'm afraid. Be happy to assist in a few trophy hunt rounds if the timing's right. I'll keep an eye out for you.

I would really like to see one with zero or close to zero movement noise. This could be a grear trait for both Attacking and Defending. I would also like to see another gun on the defenders side that is as good as Jager's 416 it seems to me a lot of the guns on defense are under powered. Let me know what you all think.
