I found this weird.

I got the call from Gamestop saying I could pick my copy up at midnight; interested in the game but not that interested to the point were I'm going to lose sleep!

The Destiny Web site countdown says it will Launch at 2:00 AM. The countdown on my PS4 says the same thing.

The site shows 15hr 35m for me... it's 8:25am... Monday morning, math is hard... I think that's midnight? So maybe their countdown is pacific timezone centric? That does seem odd, I'd expect the site and PS4 counters to base it on the timezone of your computer/console. Surely it'll still launch at 12 wherever you are.

It is weird. I thought I read somewhere that digital preorders/preloads unlock at midnight pacific time in the US. I have no idea why, or no idea to the validity of this statement though.

Bungie said as soon as it was Tuesday somewhere you can play without penalty.

Is there a clan we are creating in this game? I saw the option on the bungie website.

I believe we already have an MP clan setup, you just need to join. I don't think they wiped clans when they wiped stats, but I can't be sure. I will check it out now and report back.

UPDATE: This is the clan page: http://www.bungie.net/en/Clan/Detail/114818

UPDATE 2: It looks like the link above is a TeamMP Group, but when I click on clans and go to search, it takes me right back to Groups...maybe Clans is something that will go live when our game copies are installed. Weird.

UPDATE 3: I found this explaining the difference:

A clan is a subset within a group. But I'll break this down so that makes a bit more sense.

Groups are smaller sections of Bungie.net wherein likeminded players can mingle, make friends, and avoid the larger forums if they want to. It is also a way to build a small community or to gather an already existing community (a group of friends, for example) under one umbrella wherein you can socialise and share as you would on most other social media websites/forums.

Clans add a competitive element to the groups. What they are is an integrated part of Bungie.net that is the equivalent to creating a sports team or flying a banner under which the group members may fight. This is why you are only allowed to join one clan but can be part of many groups. Clans are also an easy and fine way to find players quickly for raids, strikes, and PvP matches as well as scheduling times for many members to meet up for those events. This is particularly important for the Iron Banner and raids because they take more than just bull-headed determination and require more of a team focus, which the clans definitely build themselves upon.

Right now, clans are disabled to the masses until the launch of Destiny. When you leave the Tower for the first time, you can also join a clan. That would be an opportune time for you to create your clan if you plan to as you would be able to see the fruits of your labour almost immediately.

Please report all bugs and the level of brokeness of the game, so guys like me, can decide if the game is worth getting after release.

I'm pretty sure the clan was set up at the same time as the group during the beta.
But as you said, it's been disabled until launch.
There are a few Admins for the group on the Bungie site, if anyone wants to be one and actively recruit for the clan let us know and I'll add you.

I hope the launch goes smooth. I have to say the beta was well polished and ran better than most titles on release.

I skimmed this while in a meeting -- so what is the bottom line -- is there an mp group or clan?

Should be both, but post-beta only the group has been active. We'll find out for sure of our clan is still intact as soon as they activate all the various parts of the destiny site. Which should be anytime, or maybe already is. Guess I haven't checked it since midnightish.

From my understanding we will all be in the MP group and small subsections of us who play together a lot can make clans and compete against our own clans. That puts me at a disadvantage being over on the west coast because you guys start playing so much earlier, so I am not sure how that's going to work out.

Why is this clan/group thing so confusing?

Or is it just me?

It kind of makes sense because it's not like Battlefield where you can have 64 people to a server. You can only squad up with a maximum of 6 people and most fire missions are 3 or 4. So if you consider the size of MP, we can't all play together. So I guess if you have a core group you play with all the time then that's your clan and you can make it official. But I understand that clans are only for those who wear their try-hard underwear...to go along with that cloth that Badger is excited about. :D
