After the crap fest of Primal, I'm hoping this is good.

Montana? Well, that's different. Are we going to be climbing Cell Phone towers? Wind Power turbines? Grain Silos?

Trailer reminds me of that show "The Preacher" a little.

I skipped Primal cause I didn't think they deserved to get rewarded for recycling maps and charging full price, so am looking forward to another Far Cry.

Here's the announcement trailer and a few character trailers combined into one. Looks good!

Haven't found a lot of details so far, but a few things that sound like will be different in this one. You customize the character you play, rather than playing a pre-defined character like previous games, and the campaign will be fully playable in Co-Op. Hopefully we'll get more details and maybe see some actual gameplay at E3.

Far Cry 5 (http://ca.ign.com/games/far-cry-5) is almost certainly going to get talked about by the mainstream news media. Whether that idea excites you, annoys you, or something else is up to you. But Far Cry is going places that no big-budget, AAA-level game has gone in recent times, if ever.
You play a sheriff’s deputy caught up in a war between the US Marshal Service and Hope County’s resident cult leader, Joseph – a man who believes he’s been chosen to protect his followers from a government collapse he believes to be imminent – and his family: brothers Jacob and John and their half-sister, Faith. You won’t be alone, of course. Joining you in the battle for Hope County’s soul are potential allies like Pastor Jerome, whose church has come under fire by Joseph’s group; Mary May, whose father was killed by the cult; and Nick Rye, a pilot and soon-to-be father who wants to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, who both fought for the US.

It’s Far Cry 5’s subtext of “us versus them” and Americans shooting other Americans in defiance (or defense) of the US government that seems bound to spark partisan-fueled conversation on social media, regardless of the gameplay quality – although creative director Dan Hay disagrees.
“It's not a story that's supposed to teach you about something specific about politics,” he told me. “I think that it's strong enough and it stands on its own that when you go in and you play it, and you have the experience of somebody who's just echoing the sentiment that right now, the world is a little bit off.”

I asked Hay if he was worried about the game being politicized because of that “us vs. them” mentality:
“The key for us is to make sure that when we build our world, we populate it with characters that have their own views,” he explained. “And those views compete. You go out into the world, and even when you think about the conversation between [two characters in the beginning of the game]...you're listening to this and you're like 'Who's right? Who is the person you should follow in this? Who's right?' And the answer is, It's not clear. [Ed. note: We don’t know yet if you’ll be able to make these kinds of moral decisions during the course of the game.] The world is sometimes messy and sometimes bumpy and filled with opinions. And if we do it right, we will build a world that has the same thing.”

My first brief glimpse suggested that Far Cry 5 is doing enough in the gameplay department to get its due attention on merit alone. I didn’t get to see much of the actual game running during Hay’s passionate pre-E3 Judges’ Week presentation; it was more tell than show for now, at least until E3. But what I did see was exactly what I’d want to see from a new-gen Far Cry: a vast rural sprawl that is equally gorgeous and enormous. Semi trucks, sports cars, tractors, and planes – all drivable. Abnormal weapons like pitchforks and picks (put to predictably gruesome use in the gameplay snippets I saw). And my favorite new feature so far: dogs. Yes, you can now get a canine pet to help you survive the wilds, and your pup can not only attack, but he can even pick up weapons off of dead bodies and bring them to you. WHO’S A GOOD M16-RETRIEVING BOY?

Ultimately, maybe Far Cry 5’s theme bothers you. Maybe it doesn’t. Maybe in these politically charged times you don’t want your escapist entertainment to remind you of real-world issues. Maybe you don’t care. Either way, Far Cry 5 is almost certainly going to get a reaction out of you. And isn’t that what the last couple numbered Far Cry games have been building towards?

My only disappoint so far is the release date. The original reports had it coming fall 2017 and with the delay of RDR2, I was really happy I may have a new Far Cry instead to hold me over.

Oh well.

Yeah, if you're not a Destiny fan, that makes for a long wait for both this and RDR. Hopefully E3 will have something exciting for the fall?

I'm really hoping Ubisoft announces a new Splinter Cell game, though if they do it's more likely to be a 2018/19 game. The new Assassins Creed game will definitely be this fall though.

Okay so this is nuts. The game comes out on Feb. 27th 2018, yet....

Pre-download for a game that is 9 months away and likely to be delayed at least once???

I wonder how much of a game even exists 9 months ahead of release? Is it mostly there and will just be being patched hundreds of times between now and February? Or would you get like 30% of the game now and the rest once it's done? Hmmmm.

Game looks like it could be fun! Never played a Far Cry game before... have number three just sitting in my backlog.

You're right Stains.... looks kind of like 4.5

the campaign will be fully playable in Co-Op.

I hope it's "drop in/drop out" co-op like they had in GR:W. I thought that worked really well.

I think I heard it referred to as "Friend for Hire", as if it works like the Guns for Hire in 4. Sounded like it would be drop-in/out, and similar to 4 with the addition of story missions.

The Hope County teaser is very reminiscent of the many GTA V teasers.

Not sure anyone's gotten much time in with it so far. I got about 1.5 hours in last night, was only enough time to get through the intro and into the beginning tutorial level. Pretty standard Far Cry so far, hoping to unlock the co-op and make it to the open-world tonight, which should give a better idea of the game as a whole.

Yes...HC is still alive...

I put in about 3 hours last night. Got through the intro and into the main world. Gink is right, it's a standard Far Cry game (which isn't a bad thing).

I'm having a blast so far. The game looks and sounds amazing (playing on One X). Montana is a fun and fresh world, and this game is a breath of fresh air after the disaster (in my opinion) that was Primal.

Really looking forward into sinking many hours into this game.

I grinded until I unlocked the extra holster. Now I can rock my AR & my Bow. Sweet!

Extra holster is nice. I've found hit detection to be too unreliable for the bow though, so have switched to max carnage with an AR and RPG

Really? I'm sniping people with the bow, haven't noticed any hit detection problems. I do need to unlock the next holster though so I can have my Bow, AR and suppressed sniper rifle with the hunters scope.

I can often snipe with the bow from pretty long distances, killing in one shot when I'm not even sure I'll hit the target. But then I'll be crouched in the grass and shot after shot from close range will miss or disappear or something.

Not sure if playing co-op in someone else's game is having an effect. Shouldn't be any lag, but maybe some other delay between where it thinks things are and where my shots are going.

Hit detection seemed better last night. I didn't use the bow much to test that out, but with most guns when they missed I could see the bullets missing, and the SMG that works in the sidearm slot was much better than the first night. Effective range falls off fast, but it was consistent, whereas the first night it seemed to change and instead of reduced damage at range was just like the bullets sometimes disappeared at 10 feet, and sometimes hit hard at 50 feet. Was weird.

Maybe it was day1 co-op server goofiness. Too bad they don't have LAN co-op, that'd avoid all that mess.
