lucky me, I'm o.k. for this. I may check this out. When is the release date?

08-06-2010, 03:24 PM
I might squeak by on minimums, but I was looking for a PC upgrade soon anyhow.

08-08-2010, 10:18 AM
Yikes. I built a new PC after Christmas this year, and I'm not clearing the hurdle by much. I can see why they do it though - the late game can really slow down to a crawl when every civ is fully developed. Hated that in Civ 3 and Civ 4.

Lockwood, release date is 9/21, I believe.

Most.addictive.game.ever! Which is why I probably won't get it until Christmas - just too much going on in the autumn.

09-28-2010, 02:35 PM
Anyone picked this up yet? I've read some (positive) reviews but have yet to hear from anyone I know whether or not it lives up to its heritage.

09-28-2010, 04:31 PM
I'll have to wait until next year to get this. I might be getting a new PC sometime next March. If that plan goes through, then I will definitly be getting this.

09-30-2010, 09:47 PM
I hope to get it for Christmas. :-"

I'll report back and let you know how it goes

Well, since I now have to share the TV (and hence the Xbox) with my wife, I went ahead and picked this up. Got it for $29.99 on a Cyber Monday deal, so it was tough to pass up. Will probably be awhile now that Map Pack 7 has dropped for BC2, but I'll post some impressions once I give Civ 5 a try. Just in case anyone else out there is as big of a Civ-addict as I am!

12-01-2010, 11:44 AM
I thought about this one too, but just don't have the time for it right now. I'll be interested in your evaluation, though. Maybe after Fallout, I'll look into it.

Little bit late to the party, but Civ V free to play on Steam until 1 pm pacific time today (5/27). Also save 75% off purchase price.

I'm considering getting this game right now. I've got this kick ass gaming rig which I am not using to its fullest potential right now.

07-03-2012, 05:47 PM
Have you played the Civ series before? Probably my favorite franchise of all-time, but Civ 5 was a low-point. Worth it if you can find it for $25 or so. That said I'll probably buy the DLC soon. While I don't love it I do lament the slow death of PC 4X games, and its important to patronize the few developers who do still make them!

07-03-2012, 06:08 PM
I have had this game for some time. Been a fan since the first one. If anyone wants a multiplayer match look me up on Steam.

07-03-2012, 08:57 PM
I tried starting a thread about this game 2 years ago here. Only reply I got was someone asking what Civilization was. I have Civ 2 and 4. This was my game addiction before I discovered Call of Duty.

09-17-2012, 08:17 AM
Anyone on this game?

Myself and Magmarky have just started a few weeks ago. Not using steam...

09-17-2012, 12:53 PM
I have it, but its on Steam, no idea if that makes a difference.

09-17-2012, 07:16 PM
Not really :) We just don't use it. For multiplayer, we use Evolve VPN. Sometimes unstable, but since I never got my Steam working, this is pretty much the only way I can play....

Do you have the expansion and DLC? What leader/style do you play?

09-18-2012, 05:53 AM
I've only got Civ 5, no DLC, I bought it to take a break from BF3, but have not played it in a while.

I had played Alpha Centuri back in the days, love that game, too bad they are not coming out with a sequel to that.

As with leader and style, I just do what ever, the game takes way too long to complete, even on the small maps.

01-27-2013, 06:54 PM
Oh man if anyone wants to play any of the Civ games just hit me up. :attention:

07-11-2013, 02:11 PM
So I finally decided to get me a video card and dish out some $$ on Steam for Civ5. Magmarky has his copy for a year now and we are starting online Multiplayer play!

Are any of you guys into this game?

Let me know how it is.

I'm a huge Civ fan, but haven't been a PC gamer for years now. Don't see myself getting back into it.

07-11-2013, 02:43 PM
I think its a good game. Had a few turns last night...its more complete than civ4 for sure. Is it worth 50$? I'll tell you soon :)

07-11-2013, 03:24 PM
Civ is like dirty dirty crack. I don't think I can justify spending the money on something I know will be that bad for me. Just one more turn, just one more turn, just one more turn, just one more turn, just one more turn.
Actually I'm just as bad with pretty much any building, or RTS, or even Tower Defense games. Always have to build one more thing, wait just a minute to complete some tech, etc. Next thing I know it's 4am next Tuesday.
Though on the plus side, I might lose time, but at least I never wake up naked in some dark, filthy alley. One more reason games are better than crack!

07-11-2013, 03:38 PM
What a great outlook on life! Hahaha!

Sooooooo, when do we expect your friend request on Steam? :boink:

07-12-2013, 07:52 AM
So here is a sumn up of the game so far:

I took the Mongols, and Magmarky took the Maya. We both play on King difficulty.

I found myself alone on my small continent with 2 city states. Mags has 3 or 4 neighbors, still unsure of the number becaus a piece of continent is blocked off by a civ. He is with Gandhi and Ceasar. The other civ I dont remember. We have both managed to found a religion relatively early.

Im at a point where being alone on my island is hindering my growth both economically and scientifically!

Stay tuned for screenshots!

PS: I called my religion Danboism, and...it...is...THE SHIT.

For the next 8 hours... 6pm-2am pst errrr 9pm-5am out east... tomorrow across the pond... Steam has Civ V at 75% off. $7.49, or $12.49 for gold edition. http://store.steampowered.com/app/8930/

07-17-2013, 07:54 AM

Kiss my ass Steam...:P

You getting it?

07-17-2013, 09:58 AM
Couldn't pass it up at that price. Mostly I've been picking up the $5 deals, but am still probably going to end up giving all my $$ to steam before the sales end.
Haven't gotten it installed or anything yet, leaving on vacation in a few days, so it'll probably be a week or so before I get a chance to sit down and check it out.

07-17-2013, 10:25 AM
My steam ID is mpdanbo
Magmarky's is magmarky

Cool, I'll add you both.

12-20-2013, 02:29 PM
you guys been playing anymore? I use to be really big into the civ games. played alot of the originals on pc and console and stopped with III I believe.
let me know how its going. I have been playing more pc lately.

12-20-2013, 02:47 PM
I have moved more towards the ps4 as of late, but I expect to be on PC in a few months...

12-22-2013, 01:33 PM
I've been about 50/50 between PC and PS3 when I have time to game lately, but I've been trying to work my way through various SP games that I have backlogged, and rarely have the time to commit to a full game of Civ. Great game though, it's been popping up in Steam holiday sales for pretty cheap, so definitely a good time to pick it up for anyone who doesn't have it.

Civilization V is now available for SteamOS & Steam on Linux!
Supposedly all DLC is supported and multiplayer is cross-platform. So if you have a Steam Machine, or get tired of booting your dual boot system from Ubuntu over to Windows just to play Civ, it's your lucky day! :brick:
