Just in time for you, Misfit! You can get up to speed on these maps the same time as the rest of us.

What do they mean by a new "persistence" system. I mean, I get the assignments but do you know what this is going to entail and what the rewards will be? It all just sounds very... not BF-esque.

Maybe if the tell you to defend and that's all you persistently do, you earn rewards.

More info...

Our dedicated Back to Karkand team continues to make awesome progress on this expansion pack, which will be available in December at no extra charge to everyone who pre-ordered Battlefield 3. If you didn’t pre-order, you’ll be able to purchase it for $14.99, 1200 Microsoft Points, or the equivalent in your local currency, at the same date.

It contains four of the most loved Battlefield 2 maps boldly re-imagined in Frostbite 2: Gulf of Oman, Sharqi Peninsula, Strike at Karkand, and Wake Island. You'll also get to patrol the battlefield with your favorite Battlefield 2 vehicles and weapons, and the expansion pack also features the return of the exciting variation on Conquest called Conquest Assault (more on that later). And for those of you who love your persistence, you'll get new "Assignments" to complete for unlocks (we'll talk more about Assignments soon)!

New vehicles and weapons. That doesn't happen in many other games these days...

Fixed it for you.

And a new game mode... Conquest Assault? Any guesses?

I didn't see too many new weapons but the FAMAS was in there.

There's this new persistence thing "Assignments", a bit like Contracts in Black Ops. When you complete them you earn a new weapon. There are 10 assignments according to the BF3 blog.

It is almost December. When are they going to give the Release Date? I know we get it a week early on the PS3, but will it be the 2nd to last week in December? I need to know.

All I know is that they should be out by the time I get my copy for Christmas. :))

Not sure if this is new news but according to http://asia.playstation.com/sg/en/psn/a ... ail/251070 (http://asia.playstation.com/sg/en/psn/addonDetail/251070)

December 7th (the day that will live in infamy) for Ps3 - 14th for xbox and pc.

Official confirmation that Back To Karkand hits PS3 on Tuesday, December 6th.

We hope you are ready to go Back to Karkand, as we are releasing our first Battlefield 3 expansion pack Tuesday, December 6th (giving you one week early access exclusively on PlayStation 3)!

Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand is a huge expansion pack featuring four legendary Battlefield maps reimagined in the Frostbite 2 engine. Three new vehicles (the VSTOL fighter jet, Desert Buggy, and an APC), ten new weapons that you can bring back to the base game, and a new layer of persistence with our all-new Assignments make this a must-have for any Battlefield fan.

Our four new maps are Wake Island, Sharqi Peninsula, Gulf of Oman, and Strike at Karkand. Over the years these maps have been played billions of times and now they’ve been reimagined with the power of the Frostbite 2 engine. To top it off, we’re taking the level of destruction to the next level as well – entire huge portions of these maps can be razed to the ground.

We’re also introducing the Assignments system. For example, to complete the “Let it Rain” assignment players must score 20 kills with Light Machine Guns and two mortar kills. When you have met the requirements, you will unlock a new Back to Karkand weapon (with a matching set of dog tags) to use in Back to Karkand and the original Battlefield 3 maps, which will mix in server rotation. You will also unlock the next Assignment in the series, the new Creeping Death Assignment.

Any feedback on the new map pack.

There are a few mentions in the war stories. I will work on a video giving my initial thoughts tonight. They are fun maps and the new weapons are fun to unlock.

Best $0.00 i have ever spent for an expansion pack. Love the new maps. Still working on unlocking the weapons. Considering the cost, it is fantastic. Now if they just did something to fix communications via mic, i would be a very happy bf3 owner.
