Post your review of MW3. I am interested to see what people have to say about this game, because I may get it now.

BF3 is just collecting dust for the PS3 due to me getting UC3 and enjoying that more since BF3 is just frustrating to me right now since the voice chat is still broken and I don't really feel like getting owned by MP BF experts who team up with each other all the time and roll over me if I join their server. I am probably getting a 360 for Christmas, and I am going to get BF3 for it instead since the voice chat works and the personalities and attitudes of the 360 MPeeps seems more in line with my own.

I may end up trading in BF3 for the PS3 and getting this instead as long as it doesn't have any game breaking problems like the voice chat in BF3 on PS3. That way I will make the PS3 my COD console and the 360 my BF console.

I'll try to review this tomorrow morning.
I heard some fairly reliable sources saying that the noob tubes are seriously underpowered. I am happy about that.
Plan to see me playing Kill confirmed most ricky-tick at 12:30am

really interested to see what the verdict on this from the other MW2 players, the wii version is good, definately gonna take a bit to get use to with the hit detection, only dom and tdm in my games so far till I get a feel for this. I was close to being done with BO anyways, gonna be interesting to see what the next week holds on the wii, as I've seen prestige players already, and I haven't seen a option for the Mountain Dew double XP yet?

This game is definately mw2 on steroids. The overall feel of the game is the same as mw2 but the good news is that it seems the.tubes have been scaled back.so your not getting blown up all over the map. The speed of the game is awesome, the perks in my opinion give a good mix, and I really like the new strike package system. The graphics are good, and I have basically lived on the new game mode kill confirmed. MW3 has exceeded my expectations, and I would say the best COD yet

The real Q for me is MW3 or Skyrim?

Ouch!

Haven't even really gotten a chance to play with you. Only did see you ingame once and yes it was on the opposite side but there are ways around that. Not sure how you came to that conclusion.

Ok. I played about an hour each of SP and MP. My first impressions of the SP were quite good. Nothing really new or out of the ordinary, so far. Just "follow" the leader and shoot the baddies. Kinda fun swimming around with a propulsion device. Really reminded me of my old GI Joes when I was a kid. My first impression of the MP was that it seems a LOT like MW2, which is to be expected. It shocked me how fast everyone (other than me) seemed to move through the maps. I managed to get a few kills, but mostly I just spawned and died, spawned and died. Getting knifed isn't anywhere near as unpleasant as it is in BF3 or BC2. It happens so fast that I hardly even realize what has happened. At one point I was in a room shooting down to a courtyard. I turned around just in time to see a guy literally flying into the room and knifing me. I know it is meant to be fast paced, and I get it, but holy smoke! Anyway, the game worked seamlessly and for the short period of time that I played it never crashed or lagged or anything. Just worked. I tried to join on Dinsdale and when I finally got into his lobby he left :( I can't have been anything I said...cuz I didn't say anything. LOL

I only played a few missions of single player, but from what I have seen it felt like the crescendo to the MW storyline; as it should be. Other than that I will leave that part alone.

As someone that came to MW2 late and played a lot of Black Ops, I can say that MW3 took the speed of MW2, the communal aspects of Black Ops, and the desire to find balance of COD4.

The new match types are fun but the speed of the matches wears on you a bit. Everything seems more frantic and noisy. In the more silent game modes it might change but there was so much audio blaring my PS3 cut out a few times. I have heard that sound whoring is back but with all the gunfire, explosions, narrators calling out objective stuff, and the constant rock riffs as you level; your ears could use a break.

I think the guns are well developed but it's obvious that with most of the maps being smaller close combat designs, the SMG's rule. Run the specialist pack with hardline and after a few decent multikills you will feel like a god.

The maps are okay and feel like condensed MW2 fodder. Nothing stuck out to me, but at least there were colors. There seemed to be a lot of hidden paths that you have to really search to find, but with so much going on that is hard. In the same respect, the graphics looked sharp, but everything seemed very artificial. After playing a more realistic shooter, things start to feel dated.

This may well be the best COD yet, but the fact that it doesn't stray much from its own legacy may be a huge decision making factor in whether that seems positive to you or negative.

Personally, if I could only buy one game between this and BF3, I would have gone BF3 still. Chat glitches aside, it is just in a different league now.

On a scale of 5 stars, I would say 4.5. BF3 to me is a 5.

There is never any down time. That is what I said to RFK last night. As mentioned before, it never slows down. Before this game, you could kind of find an area and chill out if you were getting destroyed. In this one, there is no chill area. You are either going to learn how to play better or you are going to feed someone's killstreaks. People say the support makes it easier for new players. I agree but it is still no fun to be killed over and over. If you like a slower paced game, you SERIOUSLY might want to think about BF3. I like the game. I just haven't found my groove yet. If you are on the fence, I highly advise you rent first. If you don't, you might end up with something you don't like. One more thing. The freaking knife in this game is ridiculous. I screamed some very bad words at my tv last night. It was never that bad in BO (IMO). Sorry psycho, rfk, and rampage.

I absolutely love this game. It is MW2 without any of the BS. Here is a list that I have had in my head since last night of what I like.

1 Noobtubes don't seem to be an issue.
2 No Marathon Lightweight Commando with akimbo shotguns
3 No stupid currency system. You have to earn your attachments and cammos.
4 No stupid doplphin dive
5 Guns seem very balanced
6 I like the new Strike package system more than I thought.
7 Kill confirmed is a great game type.
8 I like being reward with some intersting Unlocks for Prestiging. Even for prestiging in past games (It's about time)

All in all I am very impressed. I got to say that I might like this better than BF3. I am a COD fanboy deep down. Here is the thing, though. I am much better at BF games than the fast pace COD games. The good news is that the 2 games are completely different and I am going to enjoy the hell out of both of them.

Here is my professional "review" of CoD8 (seriously - 8) MW3. First the backround: Ive been playing FPS games since the OG Wolfenstein - that game invented video game gore. Ive played every last one of the CoD games but only really had ALOT of game time since MW1 - I had 26 days wrapped up in that game, A few in WaW, 19 days in MW2, and 10 in Blops. I may be a bit biased because of the gametime spent but.............. Lets let this thing commence?

I immediately went to MP mode. The menus are the same as MW2 style wise so familarity is there. I thought I would try out Kill Confirmed. Holy shit is this game fast. It is run and gun from the begining. Forget sniping. My first match I went 22-6. So I went from lvl 1 to level 5 in the first match. Leveling up on this game is pretty easy because of the amount of unlocks you can get for EVERYTHING. I had about 3 hours of playtime last night.

HEre is the short version:
Maps: Small - all of them. I dont think I played all of the maps yet but most are small and couple are tiny.
Weapons: SMGs rule. Assaults are #2. LMGs are pretty crappy. Shotguns and Snipes are tied for a close lasst place.
Theyre all pretty accurate. I didint have a problem with hit detection but it seems like lag compensation is over compensating sometimes.
Speed: Ludicrous (5 points if you name the movie)
Feel: Like MW2 with textures from MW2 and Blops
Killstreaks: Are now point streaks but theyre still listed as kills in the strike package menus. I like the idea of strike packages.
SP - I didnt play it.
Unlocks: They got of the currency so thats good but I dont like how getting the attachments requires leveling up the gun and doesnt require using the attachment. I kinda like being forced to use the attachements at least once.

So this group is full of BF3 guys. I'll probably be a loaner MW3 player. BF3 and MW3 are 2 totally different games. BF3 is more strategic and slower paced and has vehicles and HUGE maps. But I dont like how it take 42 bullets to kill someone. MW3 is effing FAST but I dont like the tiny maps.

EDIT: And everything that RC said.

Here is my quick review as my class is about to start.

The SP was good and just like the last couple MW games. Beat it on hardended in about 6.5 hours which really stinks.
But, the story and gameplay was really good.

I have only played on match of MP, but it was what you would expect from MW. Really fast and in your face. And, it was fun.

Simple, I know, but that is all I have to say really. :)

Sorry if this was already discussed in another thread, but I got a couple of questions about game features:

Does the game have the combat training mode from BO where you play the MP maps/modes against bots?

Any option to limit chat to your friends or do you need to mute the brats?

Any zombie mode, coop mode, or spec ops mode? Comments on how well they work?

My original thought was to get this game for Xmas, but after hearing about the faster pace and smallish maps, I am thinking I will not be a big fan of the multiplayer cause that doesn't fit my game style. However, I've always enjoyed the SP on the MW titles so these extras may make me lean towards picking up a used copy vs just renting for the SP. I have already decided that I will not buy new as I am making a statement about them resting on their laurels vs. Dice who have clearly upped the ante with BF3.

Also I second Beeano's ouch to Borlaxx throwing BF3 and the PS3 peeps under the bus. We are figuring out how to avoid/ minimize the team splitting, Dice will fix the chat, and if you don't think we are as fun as the XBOX guys, then I must take offense. We are way better at penis jokes - you just have to time them right so that they get through:

" There (pause) once (pause) was a (pause) man (pause) from (pause) Nantuck ( pause) et"

It works fine.

There is no combat training.
Yes you can party chat which mutes all the diaper wearers
There is spec ops but its 2 player and not 4 player - cant comment on functionality

Spike,

Specs Ops and Survival modes are good if you are into that. I played some split screen wih my son last night and we has fun. The Survival rules. Much better than zombies IMO.

You do have to mute the brats, but that is no big deal. The voice chat doesn't work that well in this game either.

I didn't think I was going to like as much as BF3, but I was wrong. I will say one thing for sure about MW3. It has more to offer SP wise than BF3 does.

No need to apologize in any way Borlaxx. You get a bazillion passes for all you do for this community, and I understand where your frustration comes from. The broken chat on PS3 is such a pain in the ass and really hinders team play - and having a good time in game with the MP's.

Let me start the flaming then. Kidding. But I have yet to hear a YT commentator or see a tweet about the PS3 MW3 chat sounding like comms mixed with fingernails on a chalkboard. It isn't clear nor any simpler to mute the morons then in the past.

I got dropped from a ton a matches last night, lobbies failed to merge, and my connection was NAT open but still had only one match with more than 3 bars.

I don't want to say anything but the COD Elite site is still unaccessible to me, from either the PSN app nor the website. I'm sorry but if we are going to have a pissing contest, the Battlelog may only be a tinkle but I think Elite has a kidney stone...

I don't want this to be a flame war but tons of people have blasted BF3 for the exact same issues as MW3 is having but very few people are chiming in on these identical hiccups.... :smug:

I might be the most biased person when it comes to BF3 and MW3. I like them both a lot. They both have chat issues on the PS3. Neither are very clear which makes me think it is a PS3 issues. The 2 games are completely different and are great for there own reasons. Beside sbeing a FPS they shouldn't even be compared to each other.

yes and no. Depending on the match type and if you have hardline pro, you are pretty much still going for kills.

I even noticed that the Stike pkgs are set up for kill streaks. Kinda of odd considering they were touting the point streak thing. I only played TDM and Kill Confirmed last night. I may try Team Defender just to check it out.

Id like to get on a slower paced game so maybe I can actually get some sniping in.

I hope some of the DLC coming up has larger maps with more vertical integration.

Note: God I hate QS'ing.

Hey, there. How's the weather? I am actually in Westlake, OH (just outside of Cleveland) for the week.
What games are you playing lately? I just picked up MW3, probably going to tool around in that for a bit this week before jumping back into my fav BF3.

Only played the SP so far.

The Good:
The story is good.
Nice end to the MW trilogy.
The game runs really well.

The Bad:
It's not a FPS it's OTRS (On The Rails Shooter). Seriously is there a game out there that holds your hand and tells you what to do more than this??? Bad Company 1 this is not.
Played it before, twice actually - 2007 and 2009 when it was CoD4 and MW2.
Uncharted 3 is worth the $60 bucks just for the SP (the MP kind of sucks), IF you were to get this just for the SP, rent it for an evening as that's all you will need.

---------------------------------------------------------

While the SP does not really blow me away I will say it is far better than MW2 and maybe just slightly better than CoD4.
I'm going to try out some MP tonight. I really won't touch the co-op type stuff as I could really not care less about co-op games. If what I'm hearing is correct, that it has the balance of CoD4 and the smoothness of MW2 along with the customization of BlOps, I will be pretty happy with it.

As others have said, Elite is broken.

I played the SP for two trophies. Then quit. Too linear for my taste.

The MP rocks. Right out of the box, this thing works. Period.

Noob tubes have been nerfed ( :applause: ). While others have said the SMGs rule, I have been doing quite well with a scar. Don't bother with a sniper rifle. The maps are well laid out with multiple paths, you really can't camp too much. The kill confirmed game mode is awesome.

I haven't had any issues with chat. Still waiting to play with some MPs. :cuss:

I don't have BF3 but it sounds like they are different so don't compare. I may pick up BF3 over the holidays for a different experience, or maybe Skyrim. Not sure.

But for action filled, smooth gameplay that seems to be balanced, this game delivers.

After some time in MP I will say this. If you get the game for free, it makes for a nice little distraction but I wouldn't pay for it. Now I know there is only so much that can be changed in a FPS game, but seriously this is nothing more than a MW2 map pack.

I like to call it MW2.5 - its MW2 gameplay (sped up a bit) with Black Ops textures and map design. With some new features - weapon progression and game modes. Im 8 hours in on MP now. I wont be putting it down soon.

I am not very good at writing reviews (I'll leave that for Nate)
I have played about 20 hours of the MP and have made it to level 51 or so. This game is really what MW2 should have been. I played a lot of MW2 and am very thankfull that the Noob tube, commandoes have been stopped.. I just wish panic knifing could have been fixed as well.
I usually run the tactical layout and get tired of the panic knifers. I can live with it. I have not had all of the issues with chat like others had. I have had a hard time hearing some people though. ( I wonder about the quality of their headsets though)
overall, I have played lots of MP, almost half of the campaign, a few hours of spec ops. And I like the game alot....
The fast pace of the game suites me. I enjoy it. I think BF3 being a little more fast paced then BC2 makes me enjoy that more as well.

On a downside... I think the COD franchise (while it works and sells millions of games) is starting to get stale. I think that this game could get old after a while. I am glad I got the hardended edition so I will be getting maps once a month. I think that will help keep it fresh for me.
Also, It is seeming like a slog to get thru a prestige. I am a average to better than average player and I am at 20 hours played and only to level 51 out of 80. Thats going to take a long time.
overall...I would say a 8 out of 10

SmokeyCheese1
11-10-2011, 09:27 AM
It wont be maps every month. I agree with the staleness - they were talking about an MMO? I wonder how that would work.

After spending most of the weekend playing MW3 I have a decent opinion of the game. I got to say I am loving the SP. I have always love the MW story so I might be biased. It plays like a movie to me where I can't wait to find out what happens next. I am having fun with the Spec Ops and Survival modes, too. They might not be for everyone, but I am having a great time playing with my son so that is worth the $60 bucks for the game right there. that being said I hate the MP. The map suck. The kill streaks are even more OP with the smaller maps than in MW2. You can't even get cover in a building from air support. The game is laggy as hell. From now on I would say 90% of my MP time will be spent on BF3.

When I started the campaign I felt like, BORING! Played a little more and thought well it's much better than MW2, and maybe a little better than COD4. Finally got around to finishing the campaign last night or more acruately this morning. While the start did not get my hopes up, I must say after finishing the game I did enjoy it. CoD 2 was my favourite and will probably stay my favourite because of nostalgia, but MW3 is right up there.

The short length of the game is not going to get me upset anymore, I think I just have to accept it now in FPS titles. The last few missions in the SP were outstanding and a nice way to close out the MW series.

Over the last few months I replayed both CoD4 & MW2.

CoD 4: 3.5 / 5
MW2: 2.5 / 5
MW3: 4 / 5

BlOps would have gotten a 3 / 5 if not for the horrible ending that knocked it down to a 2 / 5.

And just for reference in the SP campaigns:

BF: BC - 5 / 5
BF: BC2 - 4.5 / 5
BF 3 - 3 / 5
