I don't know about you lot, but I have a dusty corner of my house filled with many cassettes stacked neatly, patiently waiting for me to play them again.

Although most music snobs will always wax lyrical about vinyl, there is something about the humble cassette that brings a nostalgic tear to my eye.
From the memory of my first album bought on cassette, to recording the chart show on Sunday night. And of course who didn't make mix tapes for friends, girlfriends etc. Hours spent selecting that perfect mix all edited to within seconds of each other.

Each brand had its own different sound...TDK, Sony, Phillips.
It introduced us to the world of mobile music, with the legendary Sony Walkman.
It changed the way we listened to music for years.

For an interesting show on the joys of the cassette, listen to 6 music celebrates 50 years of the cassette. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01p3lgv)

Or just go to that dusty corner, dig out an old mix tape and enjoy a blast from the past...

For real? Wow. Is the front and back still have the writing on it or is it rubbed off?

I pretty much tossed all of these in the trash can years ago. I did enjoy that read though. Thanks for sharing!

I've still got a good sized box of cassette tapes in the garage. Sometimes I'll dig one out and pop it in the player when I'm working out there. Most of mine are early 90's alt rock. Nirvana's Nevermind, Pearl Jam's Ten, Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger. Might be a few older one's buried away, the stuff I listened to as a kid. Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel, or some terrible early 90s pop music if I didn't burn them all when I discovered rock music.

I'd like to to start off by saying that my vinyl collection had more 'cooler' artists than my early cassette purchases,
which brings me to my shameful admission that...
I think my first cassette was Hits 1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hits_1)

Which had me jumping around my bedroom to Ray Parker Jnrs 'Ghostbusters' and 'Dr Beat' by Miami Sound Machine, to name but a few!

Oh the shame...it won't wash off!?!

It was only when the Walkman came out, that I started to buy more albums on cassette so that I could play music whilst cycling around.

I was too young to own one of these:

My uncle had let me try it (early 80s model similar to the picture above) when I was over at his place and I loved it. Maybe it was my family but kids back then didn't get iPods and the such for presents or gifts. I never got any type of electronic device that was worth $200. This was the first SONY walkman model I bought.

I can't remember honestly. I mean I am literally racking my brain. I remember first vinyl and that's it. Its like I have blanked out cassettes.

Lol. I had the 'Sports' model too Mutt. Loved it so much, neat little rubber buttons.

And to think one of our families main games system was cassette based. The ZX Spectrum.
Took 5 minutes to load one game!

I liked it for 2 reasons. I liked it for that little snap-on piece on the side were you can open the walkman and I really liked the headsets on that model. The over the head with the tiny earpieces and I must of gone through 2-3 of them.

=T4NUKI= you take good care of your music collection because I found over time the lettering rubs off.
