Nintendo announces launch lineup for Virtual Console on Wii U

The Nintendo Virtual Console is finally coming to Wii U, and the company has revealed the launch lineup yesterday.

Nintendo’s Virtual Console enables gamers to purchase titles from older systems and play them directly on the Wii U. The company announced eight games from the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and the Nintendo Entertainment System to debut alongside the service. SNES games will retail for $7-$8 while NES titles will range from $5-$6.

A few of the announced titles have already made their debut on Wii U through other promotions, but the majority are new additions to Nintendo’s latest home console. Check out the full roster of Nintendo and Super Nintendo games below:

Super Mario World (SNES)
F-Zero (SNES)
Excitebike (NES)
Punch-Out!! (NES)
Donkey Kong Jr. (NES)
Ice Climber (NES)
Kirby’s Adventure (NES)
Balloon Fight (NES)

That’s a pretty short list compared to the scores of titles for nine different systems that are available on the Wii’s Virtual Console. If you own any of these games on the Wii, Nintendo will allow you to repurchase them at a discounted price. Previously purchased NES titles will cost $1, and SNES titles will cost $1.50.

Not included in this list are the remaining games in Nintendo’s 30th anniversary of the Nintendo Entertainment System promotion. As part of that celebration, Super Metroid (SNES) will hit the system on May 15 for 30 cents for 30 days. NES games Yoshi and Donkey Kong will follow in June and July, respectively, both will also cost 30 cents for 30 days.

The Virtual Console isn’t yet available on the Wii U, but the company said it will reveal on Facebook when it plans to turn on the service.

:bored:

With the way they hyped this, expected more than this at launch. Most of these will be or have already been available for their $0.30 promotion. Then again, unfortunately over hyping and failing to deliver in a timely fashion seems to be par for the course with Nintendo and Wii U at this point.

If you haven't watched the King of Kong documentary, I highly recommend it.
