Listening to this (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01s9dry) great interview with Quentin Tarantino on the radio today.
He discusses his favourite tracks from cinema. And what made him choose some of the songs that make his films so memorable.

So I wondered what is your favourite song from a movie, or one that stands out in your memory?

I'm struggling to pick one out, but one that made the biggest impression is probably...

"Cavatina - Theme from 'The Deer Hunter' " by John Williams.

I found it so moving when I watched it for the first time.

The one that for some reason has always just stuck with me is, "My Name Is Lincoln" by Steve Jablonski from The Island. Especially starting around the 1:00 - 1:10 mark.

There are so many, but I have to say that true scores make the best soundtracks. Nothing bothers me more than a movie with nothing but different songs all thrown together and called a great soundtrack. If it is not done by an orchestra it just does not cut it. Some of the greats are the Star Wars Trilogy, Dark Night Trilogy, Rambo, Close Encounters, and the list goes on and on. My all time favorite composer for film scores would have to be John Williams!

I bought the Star Wars (original) soundtrack (album) and wore it out. I still love it and catch myself whistling the Cantina Band Music often.

Grease was always one of my favorites. When I was younger (much younger), one of the local radio stations used to play an entire album ... non-stop. This way you could recored it without commercials. They usually did this at midnight. I still have the 8 track tape of that recording. :headbang:

I also rather enjoyed Xanadu .... The Music was great and Olivia Newton-John was some nice eye candy.

Soundtracks that take me away to somewhere else: Grease, Forrest Gump, Dreamgirls, The Wedding Singer, and the new one - Django Unchained -- pretty eclectic and all over the map
