Amazon Prime Members to Get 20% Off New Games

Amazon Prime members will now get 20% off all new games. Apparently Best Buy has a similar program, but I know a lot of people (like me) already have Prime anyway.

Yeah, Best Buy has had that for a while now. It's called Gamers Club Unlocked. The differences are a) Amazon's discount is good only for pre-orders and the first two weeks after a game is released, and b) Best Buy gives you bonus points and often gift cards for pre-orders in addition to the 20% off. So GCU is a better deal overall, but Amazon's discount is certainly good for existing members, and makes Prime a better value for gamers.

I let my Prime membership expire last November after being in for years because the higher price finally got to me, and I don't order as much from them as I used to. With the new game discount, however, I may reconsider when my GCU membership expires next year.

I may have to reconsider my preference for digital downloads only.

This actually probably won't change anything for me. The games that I preorder or buy before a price drop are generally ones I'm pretty certain I won't resell, and $12 isn't worth the hassle of dealing with disks to me. I'm already way too used to just firing up the console and starting up whatever game I feel like playing.
