Physical play overhaul - fifa 17 developer interview

    Source: https://www.easports.com/fifa/news/2...-play-overhaul

Talk to us about Physical Play Overhaul, what exactly is that?

It's another game changer for the franchise. There are different components, but the main function is the ability to shield the ball successfully under any type of situation - called “360° Shield Dribble”. In previous games this was a huge missing part, the ability to hold up play and to place your body between the ball and the defender to shield them away from the ball. This didn't work as we wanted in previous games but now we've put together a big team of people, along with some additional time in research and development to build the technology required to make sure shielding becomes a reliable feature for the user.

Active intelligence system - fifa 17 developer interview

    Source: https://www.easports.com/fifa/news/2...ligence-system

Share with us what's new in FIFA 17's Active Intelligence System.

To me, this is my favorite element. This is a game changer from the first minute you start playing FIFA 17. The difference you see is that there will be more and smarter activity from other players on the pitch. Your teammates are always doing something to create space or come and support. They understand better what's happening.

New attacking techniques - fifa 17 developer interview

    Source: https://www.easports.com/fifa/news/2...ing-techniques

Tell us about the new ways players can attack in FIFA 17.

We've introduced new attacking options that fans have asked for and we're excited for them to use - starting with two new driven shots. The first is the low shot. You power it up like a normal shot but you press the shoot button a second time before making contact with the ball. This results in a ball that is low to the ground and great for when you’re aiming at the bottom corners of the goal. These types of shots also have a new variety of ball error.

Set piece rewrite - fifa 17 developer interview

    Source: https://www.easports.com/fifa/news/2...-piece-rewrite

    What is Set Piece Rewrite?

Set pieces in FIFA had used the same system for many years and it was time for a change. We've looked at every aspect of set pieces in the game - free kicks, penalties, corners, throw-ins - to give players greater freedom and control in how they take them.

For example, our corner kick mechanics in FIFA 17 is very different from earlier years and feels really fun. There are now many more ways you can take a corner, leading to more scoring chances or other attacking opportunities.

Making the journey - fifa 17 developer interview

    Source: https://www.easports.com/fifa/news/2...17-the-journey

Why develop a story mode for FIFA 17?

It’s a side of football we have never been able to showcase before and is something we have wanted to do for several years - give the player the experience of living a professional football career on and off the pitch. We have done an amazing job of recreating football through gameplay but up until now we have never ‘peeked behind the curtain’ and brought to life what happens off the pitch. That side of the game has become more known about in recent years through social media and the countless number of websites devoted to the sport. Fans can digest football 24/7 and have a window into footballer's lives outside of matches that just wasn't available before. I think it’s a side of football people are very interested in now and it's a great opportunity to really innovate in FIFA 17.

The frostbite™ engine - fifa 17 developer interview

    Source: https://www.easports.com/fifa/news/2016/fifa-17-frostbite

Why is it important that FIFA 17 uses the Frostbite engine?

The overarching goal is to leverage the abilities of many of our game teams to produce an engine that delivers world-class games. For FIFA, the move to Frostbite allows us to develop new features that were not supported by the previous engine including the new cinematic story mode in FIFA 17, The Journey.
